I know this isnt a sled question but Id rather ask guys from AK about this . Im going to be trading in my truck soon for a 09 Tacoma . I had a Toyota pickup about 10 years ago that was OK for towning ( 22r 4cyl man. ) . Im just looking for input from anyone whos towed a loaded 2 place ,since thats the heaviest thing its going to get hooked up to , with either the 4cyl or v6 manual . Any tips are appreciated .Thanks dudes !

Not from alaska but I have a 2000 2 wheel drive Tacoma with the 4 cyl and i tow two heavy Polaris 4 wheelers(way heavier than sleds) with it and no problem. I believe they still have the 3rz motor. I think you would be fine

Yeah, I can tow two sleds and a heavy sledbed with the 2003 taco. I've even launched the inboard woodridge with it, though I wouldn't tow it down the road, just too much weight.

The Tacoma will easily tow a loaded two place. The tow rating for that truck is a least twice that. My 1994 x-tra cab with a v-6 did a great job with my own two place.

Not an 09.
But my 00 V-6 Xtra cab Taco tows pretty good even at a starting elevation of 9000 feet climbing to trail head parking lot at 10,600.Not gonna beat the diesels up the pass but....Average about 13 mpg in 4wd towing in winter. In summer over 20 in 2wd towing(a single jet ski) at the speed limit on the flats at 9k.

Gas and oil and standard maintanance,no problems for 103,000 miles:D.

I'd say buy the Tacoma, proven reliability, resale value and decent gas mileage.
It is also built in the US so you are supporting US workers.

It's built in the US if...the vin does not start with a J. If it does, it's made in Japan.

My toyota can tow a trailer just fine... but i prefer to just put them in the bed. I have the 3.4 liter V6... 146k miles.

I have Had my 09 access cab 4cyl Since Oct and I have towed with it alot. It does just fine It does lack power on the hills but you just have to downshift. The only thing I would change is the rear springs suck so when I did The leveling kit I would go with add-a-leafs instead of blocks. With the stock rear springs it bottoms out on a big Glenn hwy bump and it only gets worse with load. I get 20 in town and 23 on the hwy if I drive smart. So normally I get in the 16-17 range on the hwy :D. I love the truck 23k on it since oct and a whole lot of those were not easy miles.
