Towing and equalizer hitches

We just bought an 18 x 8.5 ft Cargo Mate Snowbird enclosed trailer that I will be towing with my Dodge Ram 1500QC 4x4 with the 4.7 liter motor and I was wondering if it would be neccessary to get the eq hitch? I've never towed an enclosed but have towed plenty of open trailers and a few boats and never had any problems.

I think it's more of a personal thing...I work at U Haul and install these sometimes but it's really up to you. It will make it a little easier to handle in conditions such as crosswinds and the weight distribution will make the tongue weight lighter and therefore easier to steer. Try pullin it some without it and see how it feels, then make your decision.

Will do and I have a friend with the eq hitch as well so i'll be able to try it both ways.

Another question, for those who bought their trailers new from the factory with propane heaters installed, did you have to purge your tank before getting it filled or did it come already purged?

I've never felt like I have needed an equalizer on our 27' enclosed. But I would never pull my 30' camper without one.

Make sure you get the proper hitch setup to get your truck/trailer level. With the 2 unhooked and level, get a tape measure and measure the distance from the ground to the tongue and then to the hitch on the pickup, same spot on both (either to the top of the ball of the bottom) and try and get a drop or rise on the pickup so they are both the same. Then, if once you hook up your pickup it squats too much (you'll know) then consider the equalizers. One thing I don't like about equalizers in the winter is they can take too much weight off the drive axle if cinched up too tight causing problems with traction.
