Insane climbs in todays stage with 4 1st category climbs including the last one to the finish line. Riders dropping like flies including Frome with broken wrist/hand and Contador with a broken leg. Also a few crashes which do not look good. Rest day tomorrow and then 2 more mountain stages Friday and Saturday and 3 more mountain stages next week on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday then back to the pretty boys with a flatlander stage and an individual time trial.

All tremendous athletes.

I've had enough time in the saddle to understand how grueling the TDF would be. Oh man it would be crazy

Tomorrow we begin to separate the men from the boys. Big opportunity for van garderen. 6th place now and only 3:56 back. Kid grew up in Bozeman!

Yeah, I wondered if he'd recover after his spill...but he's chewed into that lead a little.

Van Garderen up 1 spot into 5th place is the good news. Bad news is his gap to the leader grew to +5:19.

Another major mountain stage tomorrow. Getting exciting now!!

So here's what it has come down to. Beginning tomorrow morning we have 3 punishing mountain stages back to back to back followed by a time trial on Friday.

Leader Nibali has looked strong in the mountains with no apparent chink in his armor but has a history of horrible performances in time trials.

GO TEJAY!!

Live coverage on MSNBC beginning at 6:00 a.m. each morning. Tejay currently in 5th place 5:49 behind leader Nibali.

Oh I forgot.......tomorrows stage.......148 miles.

Go frenchie
