Totalled sled - advice?

I hit a rock a couple of weeks ago on Vail Pass with my trusty 2005 Skidoo Summit X (1300 miles), going slow, and managed to twist the frame under the engine. Sucks. Initially, I thought it would just be an A-Arm replacement, but apparently, the whole engine would have to come out, new frame put in, etc. Mechanic estimate is $5000 and I have no insurance.

So, to cheer myself up, I bought a new sled, but that isn't what I'm asking advice on. I've been offered $800 (and told to ask $1000) for the whole sled. Should I part it out? Should I try to sell the whole thing?

Almost everything on it is fine, except the frame, the nun, the front of the nun, the left side a-arms and somebody bought the secondary off of me before I really had a chance to think about it. I rode it 7 miles this season, and just had VForce valves put in it at the end of last seaon. The engine is fine (120 compression both sides). A couple of pictures below.

So, what do you think? Post it in the swapmeet whole? Or try to part it out?

parting it out = lots of phone calls, time to tear it apart, many trips to UPS, and hassle trying to collect money.

selling as a whole = faster and easier. your choice.:D:beer;

Parting it out will entail a little bit of work but will get you way more $$

Selling it is throwing $$ away, especially since you already lost $$ by wrecking it.

part it out. You will be surprised how fast people will buy up every little piece.

You could make 1K easy. I am doing the same with a 05 rev right now.

Think

pipe
can
motor
track
skid
carbs
reeds

and the list goes on...
seat
panels
bumper
hood

part it out

First off, ouch. That one had to hurt.

Second, part it out if you want $$$; sell it in one piece if you want $. Few bucks here, few bucks there, some for shipping, you'll come out ahead than if you sell the whole thing. Downside? Gotta pull off this part, that part, those parts, bag up all the screws for another part... lots of shipping.

Thanks for the advice everyone. This forum rocks - a guy drove up from Denver and bought the whole thing this morning. Decided I didn't want the hassle. Thanks again.

I think if I had it to do over I would have sold the PS I had whole with the torn bulkhead. I have made more money and still have a ton of chit left but what a pain in the *** it was parting it all out.

Did you by chance endo when you hit that rock? I saw a guy early season at VP on a doo square smack a rock and endo it ontop if himself. If it was you sorry to see the damage but glad your okay!

I just finished parting out my 05 edge, fankensled. In one piece the most I could have hoped for is maybe $2K. By parting it out I wound up somewhere between $4800 and $5K. I found it easier to take one night and tear the sled limb from limb, take pictures of each saleable part, then list them. I sold some of the stuff on here and listed the rest on Ebay. Low starting prices w/no reserve and no buy it now (lower Ebay fees). I came out way better than I thought.

Yep, parting it out is def. the way to go. You made an extra $3,000 for just a bit of work. Alot of folks don't make that at a full time job.

Binge, hate to say it, but you lost a ton of dough for being lazy.
