ive always wondered where they go. anybody have any leads? I see one here or there on automotive auction sites but id think there would be so many more. people are wrecking every weekend.

ive been to sled junk yards and even they don't seem to get the new models in. maby im just looking in the wrong places

No no not parts to be more specific I'm wondering where these guys get their parts sleds on auction

I imagine the Insurance co takes "totaled" sleds to an auction house then these parts places pick them up.

I wish I had a snowmobile junk yard, for starters I'd need a yard!

You nailed it

If you call them and ask they will tell you where they send them to auction. There are a few rare deals to be found but most guys know what's still worth money and bid accordingly.

Would it be a junk yard? Or a toy yard.
Thanks for asking thus question, I've always wondered myself. I've pieced together some contraptions in the past, a couple wrecked sleds could be an affordable way to do more, again. :face-icon-small-ton

Most insurance companies no longer market to individuals.
They will have a contract with an outside company (such as Crasedtoys.com) for example.
This company gets everything, good and garbage.

Makes it hard to get a good deal any longer as there are alot of idiots out there paying way too much for total loss toys.

I have personal experience with 4 "totaled" sleds. ALL of them were totaled because of cosmetic damage and all were bought back from insurance leaving the owner with a nice chunk of cash after "repairing it".

I bought two of them from the guys who totaled them. One had a dent on the underside bulk head and the other tunnel was bent down a little behind the rear skid mounts, bent it back up, installed long rear bumper, good to go. first was a couple years old, paid $1,200(buy back price) and second was 15 pro bd race gas turbo + more paid 5k last year, chances are you saw the pro in movie, not saying which.

The others they bought back and are still riding "as is", well after couple swings with 3lbs hammer that is and new a arms.

Here in Oregon they normally end up at the same auction your truck would end up at if you totaled it.

There are several places around to buy wrecked sleds. CrashedToys.com is a big one. There are several smaller ones too.

You need to be very careful these days. You cant buy them as cheap as you think you should be able to. Also they dont do a very good job showing whats really wrong with them. The big damage is easy to see.... Its hard to see cracked, or bent, or twisted bulkheads or tunnels. Eric

you need to buy them at the actual auto auctions if you buy from savage yards you are paying the crashed retail value and it is generally is a suckers deal. i had a friend buy a salvage parts only machine with stipulation that in was for parts only and no tags would ever be issued for it . of course he ignored this and rode it with falsified tags. you need a dealers license to get into these types of auctions or be the guest of someone who has a license.

Marketing

They show you the obvious, then let you fight it out to "win" the bid and find the rest of the damage.

Who wins? Not insurance company. Not buyer.

That leaves middle man $$$, who you have zero recourse with, once you buy 3rd party junk.

You know I wonder if we could just list each other's totals sleds here and buy them out from under the insurance company.

I just picked up a 14 pro 800 with 1550 miles on it from a guy with a dealers license. It needs the correct right side a-arms put on and that's it. He was making money on it for $4350, but took my 09 iqr on trade instead. He is my best friend now lol
