Too much wasted space.

Is it just me, or is there tons of space on posts that is just wasted. For a one sentence response to a question, it seems to take up almost a quarter of the screen. Is it possible to condense a lot of this stuff so that there is more actual text being shown instead of all the ancillary stuff?

Top of the post:
There is too much user information on the right and some of it is redundant. Do we really need to see the amount of rep points AND have a visual status? Do we need to know how many thanks a person has received? Or how about the little garage symbols and the other ones? Do we really need all that? Isn't it available already by going into someones profile? If all is deemed necessary, is it possible to stack them horizontally so they take less vertical space?

Middle of the post:
There is always a line for the post title? IMO, there is no point to that. A post title doesn't clarify anything, nor do most people use it anyways? All it does is take up more space.

Bottom of the post:
The selections for thanks and thumbs up seems kind of redundant. Don't they do the same thing? Say the same thing? If not, why are they stacked vertically? Listing them horizontally would allow for a more compact view.

Am I alone with this? It just seems that when scrolling through posts and looking at threads, most of what I am looking at is not the text in the posts, but all the other stuff. It seems to detract from the user experience and requires more scrolling then what should be necessary.

Just some suggestions and as always, IMO.

I think I agree with some of these observations too. The gingerbread may not be necc for most of us.

I also wonder, as a paying member...... why is my screen taken up by so many ads. Maybe there is a setting I can click on to only show posts.....not sure. Trying to come here with a mobile device is pretty hard, because of so much stuff at the top and sides. Hope this helps with future layouts.

Yah, there are multiple suggestions, as I doubt if they would all get done, but it seems that a couple of them would be fairly easy and simple to implement without changing the functionality of the site.

Any comments from mods / admin? Anyone else?

Hang in there.
The next round of changes will be major when we make the jump to V4.xx of vBulletin in the next month or so.

Our working plan is to have all mods/upgrades done to SnoWest by September 1st.

Right now, nothing gets touched till we roll the forums over to V4.xx

Then the Premium members are going to get hit with multiple questionnaires about the feature set we choose going forward.

Christopher, you guys need to get your priorities straight.

Obviously BACON is the most important thing to 99.9% of us on here...:face-icon-small-hap

All this other stuff... whatever... give us bacon!

OK, tell ya what.
If your willing to head up the team to go HUNTING for a Smilie pack that is vBulleten V4.xx compatible, I will see to it that it gets installed just as soon as we get the dang database converted over without loosing 100,000 posts.

Brew, if you can't get your:hurt: bacon, there's always Baconaise! :hungry: For those who just can't wait.
