So what's the plan? Make a few prototypes now and test them, start taking orders in spring for next yr?

What makes this better than MH?

exactly! as long as it works thats my plan. I am not saying my kit is better than any other kit, especially this early in the build, but here are some of the facts

only things that need to be removed for install are rear swing arm and rear brake hose.

it will have a true progressive rate suspension. the suspension will be very tunable since it uses the stock bike shock. dirt bike shocks are one of the most advanced, most durable, most tunable shocks in the industry. and they are easy to tune as well.

it is a very simple design with few moving parts so it should be less susceptible to break downs and super easy to change tracks or work on skid

I dont have final weights yet but it should be relatively light hopefully lighter than the others, but thats just an estimate so far.

Like I said have not even rode it yet (hopefully this afternoon) so I can not make handling claims. but my goals are:

Awesome off trail abilities
Awesome on trail handling, I am doing a totally different ski design than the others, I hope it works but its kind of a shot in the dark.

The feel of a dirt bike in terms of how it pulls the front end up for wheelieing

Lastley I think I should be able to offer it at a much lower price, not sure yet on what that will be, but since there are no extra shocks and few precision machined parts it should bring cost down.

You build is very interesting, I didn't realize that you were going to try and sell it.

You dont think you will have any patent issues with timbersled do you. It looks very similar. I see you use the stock shock but the rest is very similar, not sure what their patent encapsulates but you might want to check that out before you go to market.

thats a good point randy, I am new to this patent thing so I am not sure quite yet, from the research I have done I think I should be ok, but I am not planning on selling until next year, and I know I have a year to apply for a patent from that date I "unveil it", so pretty much a year from last week. did you write your patent your self or did you get a firm to do it? My father in law has wrote a number of patents so I might see if I can get him to help me....:face-icon-small-dis

update...

In mn we got about 4" of snow yesterday, I got about 5 miles of testing in on the dirt with the wheel and about 5 miles on once we got the snow, it actually seems to work pretty good, have some kinks to dial in yet but I am pretty happy so far. it takes the bumps pretty good, I think I have to soften my shock a little, I thought it was going to be the other way around. not enough snow to really test anything but its a start!

I wrote my patent pending app myself but the actual patent will be handled by a patent attorney. There is way to many little things you can lose out on I think if you right it yourself. You are correct also on the year to file except that that rule only applys to USA. If you wanted to do any foreign patenting I dont think you can at this point.

oh really, i wasnt aware of that, thanks for all of your advice, that really says a lot about you and your company. who knows if I will be able to get this up and going as a production kit, but it is nice to know that the other names in the industry are not against new guys coming in.

thanks,
tom

To be honest I think you kit with the right adjustments and shock setup could do well. We went for more of a aggressive motocross style system with great powder property's as well. I would say yours is a deep snow with much better trail ride that some other kits.

Good Luck to you and we always welcome newcomers!

WE?

Don't get ahead of yerself seems most on here are newcomers especially a certain FrozenMoto prototype, the Mountain Horse has only been avail for one season thus far, Explorer about 5 seasons, SnowXcycle had a run, even almost offered an Explorer type, and then the one that inspired all the kits 2Moto, aka the Sidewinder back in 96'. Coincidently the same year AD Boivin unveiled the first Snow Hawk 440 ptype.

Hype has only buried those who built something up beyond it's capabillities once the rabbid dogs chew on it for a while, take your time and work out the bugs. Puttin the beat down on the twin plank crowd will be a bonus in my world, DEATH TO TWO SKIS!

I wouldn't get all wrapped up in patents.. a good way to loose your $$ before the dream even starts..
There is always a way around them and usually very easy,In fact you write the guide for someone to do so. Been there, done that.. I dont really see anything with any of the kits that is ground breaking new tech...
But thats just me.. Good luck to all you guys..

testing is going really good, this is a pic of the bike after about 3 miles of testing on dirt just before we got snow. it even went through the mud! more pics to come and some film too, I am going to redesign the sides of the tunnel, and I am dealing with track tension, I am finding out there is a very fine line between too loose ans too tight.

frozenmoto -I'd be interested in what you are claiming that is different to this patent.
