Hey guys,
I have a small 2 place trailer with no title, Its a trailer that was in a friends field for about 13 years, I happen to see it out there and said whats with the trailer, he said please take it. Its a good trailer in good shape and hardly any rust, I stripped it and painted it but can't use it because I don't have a title. I can't find any vin #'s on it anywhere. If I take it for inspection do they want receipts or do I apply for lost title but they want vin #'s. been looking for a small crappy trailer for really cheap that I could scrap but no luck.

title

If you can't find any identifiable markings they will stamp something make sure your buddy gives you a bill of sale stating that it was a gift so no tax is expected when you license it. Call the state patrol they will inspect it and stamp it.

Yep, I bought a trailer from Oregon when I was in WA, it was just a stripped boat trailer. Had to take it to the DMV, have it inspected, they rivet on a serial number if they cannot find one and stamp it into the frame also. (And charge you for it.) They will give you plates, but no title. There will be a three year waiting period until you can get a real title. In the meantime I moved to ID and they are different here also, they would give a conditional title. WA is a pain in the rear with trailers.

You have to weigh it too before you take it into the state patrol. They have to know the weight of the trailer before they issue a new title. Sometimes they put the vin on the axel if you look close.

Hey guys,
Damn Rob I have went over every inch of that thing can't find #'s anywhere, guess I will just take it and have it inspected, and get it over with.

Damn Just have your friend write you a bill of sale with a made up VIN and have him list his address as "out of State"....Make up an address and VIN. Then go stamp that # on the trailer somewhere..........They will issue a title w/o blinking an eye......

You wouldn't have to get a weight certificate that way. In washington you still have to have a title to get it in your name. They won't transfer it with just a bill of sale you still have to go thru state patrol but you will get a title that way instead of a 3 year registration. In some states they don't have titles for trailers so you have to make sure you find a state that does not issue titles for trailers. If you find a state that doesn't have titles they might look it up and issue you a title at the DMV and you won't have to go thru state patrol. Make sure you know how many numbers they have in their vin too. That is a good idea. Never tried it before

I just went throu this it's not that bad just get a bill of sale and have it notarized get a weight slip call WSP make an app. Then you'll get it a title in 3 years you can still sale it if you want

Get a stampset or welder and put your own on it. Tell em its homebuilt and apply for a title.
I've built and rebuilt several trailers and gotten titles for em this way.
