Tips tricks and general helpful info

I wanted to start a long running thread about, the things people know and do that help even a little.

here is one to get started.

painting with aerosol cans.

we all know we want the two stage paint look and durability but its tough to get out of a can.

here are two things

1) Use Duli-color paint (no I dont own stock) it simply is the best paint in a can. I painted 1/4 of a blazer with 3 cans for a short term emergency winter fix and 5 years later it still on there looking good.

2) the only, I best primer I found out of a can is dupli-color self etching primer, everything pales in comparison that I have tried. try it you'll see.

3) okay here is "the tip" whenever you paint anything use a heat gun and warm the part, to something like 120 °F next use the heat gun to heat the paint can to about the same, it should be warm or a little more than warm in your hand. shake it regularly and you can actually feel how the heat changes the viscosity of the paint and allows it to be sprayed much easier.

I know you should never heat an aerosol can and all the safety warnings and stuff, but use your head it works.

what do you have!!!

When taking the skid out of you sled, grab your kids blue roll up sled thingy. Slip it between the hyfax/wheels and the track and the skid will slide right out.

When bleeding any kind of hyd brakes by yourself use a small bottle half full of brake fluid with a wire hanger on it. Slip a small piece of rubber hose (3/16" or so) over the bleeder zerk. Put the other end of the hose into the hanging bottle and into the fluid. Then you can pump up the brakes with the bleeder cracked and not pull air back into the system. No mess either.

For the tastiest bacon in the world just cook it lightly as usual. Then lay the strips on a rack in a cookie sheet. Use a flour sifter to lightly cover the bacon with brown sugar. Bake it for a few minutes at 350 until the sugar turns into glaze. Good stuff.

Take your leaf blower along when trying to do your spring clean up burning. Putting an idling blower on your fire pile will flame up even the dampest fuel. Throttle it up and it goes like crazy.

If you hunt in foul weather or take your gun on your ATV and worry about dust, debris, or dampness getting into the barrel you can buy a "finger condom" at the pharmacy that will roll nicely over the end of the barrel keeping all foreign crud out of you favorite shooting iron. Pull the trigger and its gone. They come in a dozen pack.

Got a bad burn. Put a fresh egg white on it and let dry. In a day it will be gone.

I could go on and on, I'm tired now. EW
