Tips on extending wires

I'm throwing a 8 inch riser on my sled, Any tips on extending the electrical, im thinking of making the wires with the ends already put on so they just snap into stock. an i can remove them when i go to sell it.

Any other tips or suggestions?

I extended my wires using solder and shrink tube. There is no chance of corrosion or faulty connection. If you remove the riser you can simply tie up the extra.

That's the way I did it also. Good Heatshink, not electrical tape. You might want to use some flux with your solder, just wipe the flux residue off afterwards with alcohol and water, makes the solder joint look better.

Anyone tried liquid tape yet. Seems like it would work great, and be water tight.

One wire (or connector) at a time, and give yourself a lot of wire to work with. If I'm extending the wires, I usually add 12" of wire to accomodate future changes. There's nothing worse than doing a job like that twice!

Yeap. Don't use lead-free or acid-core solder. Also, heatshrink comes in an adhesive-lined flavor. When you heat it up the glue on the inside melts and forms a watertight seal. Make sure it's right before you shrink that stuff, it's a b*tch to cut off.

DigiKey/Allied sells kits (I think mouser & newark do too) containing a few sizes/colors/flavors, so if you need to order wire as well, pick up some of that at the same time.

Get ready to pay $$$ for the wire though. I restocked my supply at work and it was about $2800 for a few spools of 24awg 7/32, 50ft of 9-conductor, 50 feet of RG174 and a few other small parts. :face-icon-small-con
