Broke my hand last weekend and had to get a hard cast. goes 1/2 way up my forearm.... my ring finger and pinky on the right are casted together and are immobile. Got a curve in them though to help with the bars. Can use my thumb, fore and middle finger though. Anyone else ever ridden with a cask? Got any pointers?

I'm pretty hard core in the racing scene, but sledding is just recreational, I'd put up your feet and have a few beers. If you ever suffered from re-injury complications you would agree with me.. :beer;

my 2 cents

Agreed.
The first time you hit a small dip in the terrain that you didn't see and the front of the sled drops out from you, straightening out your arms and your'e gonna be wishing you would have taken SylvanLaker's advice.

Been there, Done that.
The injury doesn't hurt nearly as much as the re-injury.

Me and my dad both had casts on our arms from a church basketball game "accident":D. We had to trim around the thumb alittle bit to allow enough movement for the throttle. Had to take it alittle easier then normal but atleast I was able to ride.

I am not suggesting you should BUT I did.:beer;

Garage Riding!!

Sure you can ride....... in the garage. It full fills that 2-stroke need and I doubt you will reinjure your arm. Be careful after the cast too. It will take about six weeks after the cast is off to get everything back. You should be good to go for a late May ride, or just continue your garage riding though the summer. ;)

how was it repaired?

did you have surgery to pin, screw the bones together any nerve damage? Our was it just set and splinted?

I agree re-inj is the worst = longer out time in the end.

However, the approch that they repaired makes a diff for strength of repair. i.e surgical is stronger than set.

best advice...get all the sled films you can sit back watch then every few days start your sled smell small amt. (door open) Relax, heal... sorry to hear that you are on the mend heal soon.;)

yeah sorry guys I meant Cast. Hard to type with this fvcker on ya know!

I spiral broke the bone behind the pinky knuckle. They said it "looked" like it would heal without pinning or surgery, and then just casted it up. Just sucks this happened during prime time of the season. I hate summer :mad:

You don't want to mess with a spiral break. I had one on my shin and if I had stood up it would have come apart. I am assuming you are at least 8 weeks in a cast then. I was 3 months and it sucked and itched and was really gross. I still rode horses, but it was interesting. Reinjuring that would be very very bad. Welcome to an early summer of garage riding.

sissors.. trim and re-inforce with duct tape.. and go.. that is what I have done.. pissed off the MD.. but my arm (done it twice).. but then again I was racing 6 weeks post op from back surgery.. then again I am, Plum Nuts

Fighters break?

This sounds like you punched something.... ;) I would stick to the garage as well, broken bones suck and as you get older even worse if not healed correctly!!!

i broke my wrist on my wheeler 2 weeks before my moose hunt. hunted all week with a cast on my trigger hand. took some minor trimming and practice shooting but it worked. just take it easy and know ur limits. oh and get some felt type material to glue on where u cut or it will rub your hand raw and hurt like hell!. find a big a$$ glove for the hand the cast is on. a friend rode with a cast on his leg using a size 16 boot he found!

I had three rides this year with my left arm in a cast. Broke my left thumb mid December on my new XP while trying to do a donut on top of a rock. My cast went up 3/4 of the way up to my elbow, and enclosed my thumb and mid palm. I gave it two weeks of chill time, and then, went riding. If the snows soft, you'll be fine. Just think twice before climbing anything big; I had a tough time reaching the brake lever:eek: Hurry up, the snows melting:face-icon-small-ton I almost forgot. My neighbor made me a FrankenGlove. We took a pair of MITTENs and sewed the palm area(the finger part) from the right mitten onto the left mitten where the thumb section was. It looked retarded, but it kept me warm and dry.

Just drink the cask empty then set it to the side.It will be much easier to ride without it.:D Sometimes you have to listen to the Doc.

LMAO, this is what I thought of when I read your post,too.

Yeah I know what you meant, tanks for the laugh, hope you heal fast.:D
