I have heard both ways of doing this one to take the rear skid out and the other to pull it through the holes in the track. Please let me know what you have done and which way is easier. I have never pulled the skid out of a sled before but I do have a manuel if need be

if it'll fit out the windows, which they should, just do that and save yourself some time. pulling a skid isn't a big deal if you can't squeeze the hyfax out. just get weight off the rear and you're good to go.

My 2000 summit I was able to pull the hyfax out through the windows. On my 2005 summit I had to take the skid off to do it. Depends on the model of sled your running if you will be able to come out through the windows.

Pulling them out through the windows is going to be your easiest option if you can. If you have to pull the skid out do it with a buddy, you can do it by yourself but it goes smoother with another hand helping.

Pull it through the window

I have an 05 summit 144 and just changed mine out. Loosen the track, take out the screw, spray your favorite lube on the window and slide her through.

I loosened the tension on the track, unscrewed the front two bolts on the hifax, dremeled two windows (make sure you look at the windows at the location for lug placment), screwed a 3 inch wood screw into the the end of the hifax. grab some vise grips and pull. You can spray the hifax with some lube to help glide it out. Once the hifax reached the windows you may need to use a flathead To help pry it through. This helps eliminate the need to limit your dremeling on your windows.

Use a dent puller to screw into the hyfax and when hammered back it pulls out the window no problem.

Did my '05 151 yesterday, I trimed a little out of 2 windows. Pretty easy!
i take a razor and open up the windows like an 1/8" on staggered ones for each side, now you can always do it. now you can take em out by just taking out the front screw and hammering em back, i just jam a screwdriver in the side and hammer it back until i can get vise-grips on the hyfax through the back of the track, then just yank and of she goes, then just get the new one started and hammer it on, just dont hit it to far, cuz then you have to move it back to get the screwhole in the front lined up. takes like 5 minutes to do both if i have to open up the windown and work slowly.

for those who take the skid out, man, yall should probably just pull the motor out so the skid has less weight on it making it easier... but serisouly, way to much work for such a simple job.

Pull the skid out and go over all of your wheel bearings while you are at it. Good time to check.

Like Ski-Dooin said, just open up the windows on each side enough to slide the hyfax through. I wouldn't waste my time pulling the skid off. Swapping the hyfax is an easy job and shouldn't take a lot of time. I would recommend using a little lube to make the hyfax slide on and off the rail a little bit easier. Other than that, I think a monkey with a razor blade and a screw driver could swap out the hyfax in 10-15 minutes! :eek: Good luck with whatever you decide to do. :beer;:beer;
