Time Change -- Cell Phone Mess-up

So my cell phone changed time a week early. :confused:Others may want to check their phones. Clocks turn back an hour earlier next week (NOV 2). My cell phone service is through Alltel.

Did anyone else's do this besides mine and my wife's?

Sucks that it will be dark by 6pm:rolleyes:, on the other hand winter will be here soon!:D

Must be your area signal. I have Alltel and mine is correct

you use time zones? Don't just set it to UTC and apply the offset when you look at the time? :p

They could be upgrading the system... buddy used to work for alltel in AZ and they had all kinds of screwups. Also; try turning your phone off then on again. Force it to resync to the network. Time is used to generate the key pair your phone uses to encrypt the signal, so if that's different from the network (whether the network's right or not) you won't be able to do much with the phone.

If you want the right time, you could always drop $3k on a good GPS-disciplined Rb atomic clock... got one of these badboys on my desk at work... gets you other goodies like 1pps output, 10MHz TTL/Sine wave... 10^-11 accuracy...

Hmm, didn't the gov't change the date that DST takes effect to save energy or some BS like that last year? If your phone doesn't have the DST upgrade (Or alltel's network didn't do that upgrade, probably more likely) it's just doing exactly what it knows how to...

Hey Mule can you post the correct time with that fancy clock o yer's so I can set my watch:D

Turn on your GPS and sync to that.... biggest source of error is how fast your brain processes that visual time indicator, and how fast your finger can press the button on your watch :) My guess is that's about 100mS.

Refresh speed of the LCD will add to that error, but that's <~5% of the total measurement error.

I have it because I need a solid 10MHz source... and that does it real well. The clock feature is just icing on the cake.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaand back on topic...
