so what do you mean " blown out ". like seals gone, oil all over the place ? or ?
broke shafts....er what.
I have revalved several sets of the 012 fox shocks off MH kit, they are a little different breed than the fox shocks I generally see off the sleds.
top cap held in by snap ring.....pain the rebuilders azz but ok, rest fox threaded
floating piston is one piece plastic that you can't bleed...........pain in the azz
had to call fox for floating piston depth and gas psi and different and not sure why the odd numbers
took compression dampening out of the two sets I worked on to make better more compliant ride especially at low to modes speeds that most MH rider run at boon dock'n.
so the coil over MH s 12/13 shock I have seen have the bushing/seal cap end of the shock held in by a fairly light snap ring. In the past fox shocks had s screw in bearing/seal end cap.
I can see the rear suspsnsion rear shock coming apart from topping out, front shock rear suspension if it has a limiter strap likely to not give you problems.
The rear shock on rebound will bang aginst this snap ring and could easily cause this smap ring to fail.
Showa / Kayaba motorcyle shocks use the same basic setup, however a much larger, bigger diameter stiffer snap ring.
The real fix will be to put the MH rod and piston into the stronger style fox body with screw in cap and bleedable floating piston.
My rear shock looks like it was bottoming out against the snap ring and moved it enough to allow the snap ring to let go and lost all the fluid. Front shock is about to do the same thing. The plastic caps broke, rubber stopper is gone and the snap ring fell out but it hasn't started leaking yet. Took them into a gut who does rebuilds and he is going to try and get parts from fox and try to rebuld them and make a couple of mods. I will let you know what he finds out early next week. He thinks a stiffer spring may help also. I think one thing that they didn't take in to account is the extra weight we are all carrying on the tunnel with the gas, tools and bags etc. Wonder if thay may be playing a roll in the problems we are all having too.
get a hold of any shock rebuilder, they should be able to put together a shock for you.
I don't have enough junk parts to make more than a couple of shocks, but the MH parts will go right into the standard Fox / ACT body/endcap/ etc.
If you were here in town, walk in, could tell you in a few minutes what its going to take to be riding. I don't have a mtn horse shock sitting here any more, can't really tell you what can be done. PM me with shock eye to eye length and overall body length though and I can tell you what can be done for how much $$.
I would be reluctant to put the stock config back together if it cost much ( fox parts it will ), just going to come apart again.
