Has anyone else broke there timber sled frame where it mounts to the bike ( the tubing). Thank god it broke about a mile from the trail head and we had sleds along. Not fun getting two parts out. This s a 13 kit that broke right at the welds. Has anyone else had this happen or were we just the lucky ones?. I have always been concerned when you get stuck and you pull the ski around, if that link would hold up. So check your link for hairline cracks and post if you find any. Hopefully timbersled will have him running by next weekend.

Take it off send it in and it will be covered under warranty. The frame will be cut apart and repaired then re-powder coated. The repair will look factory and the kit will still be covered under warranty.

thanks Allen, after closer inspection it only got welded on the top side, not on both bottom and top like my other kit. also when it failed it took out his rear fender poked a hole in his air box and dented his mufffler in. what do we do about these items? I will have the kit at your shop in sandpoint by noon tomorrow. Any chance we can get a reinforcing strap welded around the pipe for a little added strength. i see you reinforce the mx kits. I would even pay a little more to have my next years kit's have the reinforcing strap. getting bike out was a bitc h.

after ride checks

Sorry to hear my riding buddy had problems with his kit. Thought I would add this comment in case it helps others. Before converting to snowbike riding I was use to riding the sled all year and just putting it away for the summer with minimal attention. Thanks to the guidance from another riding buddy I have learned to take the time to inspect the bike and kit after "every" ride. I take a flashlight and do a pinpoint inspection of the bike and the kit. After all the bikes were never designed for what we put them through and the kits are undergoing constant improvements and updates. Not saying I would have caught this one but I have found numerous situations that were minor that if gone unattended would have not been good. It sure has been exciting to be able to enjoy this cutting edge sport. I look forward to seeing gman on the trail again soon.

No kidding, you dont joke about if something is gonna break, its on yours!!

Glad to hear its being taken care of and you should be back out on the snow asap!!

Broke mine last year.
Buddy broke his LT two weeks ago, same spot.

I am now very careful about pulling the front ski around when the track is buried in a trench. There is a lot of stress on those tubes.
My advice is to dig out that track before pulling on the ski.

I had almost instant email response from Timbersled, and at least four voice mails telling me repair status and fully covered under warranty.
The frame looked brand new when I got it back.
No problems so far this season.
Allen has Awesome customer service..!!!!

Cheers,

LG

Bought a used 12 kit that was cracked in the frame in a few places too. Had it analyzed by our welding specialists at work (www.ssab.com) and they could see that the initial welds were not done perfect from the start (happens to anyone). Grinded it away and replaced it with proper TIG-welding and it has been flawless since then.

Since I live in Sweden I could not have it returned to Timbersled for inspection and fixing, but I have emailed them the pics of the bad welds and hope to get a decent price on other upgrades that I want after the season.

In our group we generaly just grab the front ski and flip it strait back over the top, then its just a matter of standing the bike back up

A big thumbs up to the timbersled crew and my dealer at loon lake marina for paving the way for me. Sucks big time to get a defective welded kit, but the wy they took care of me without the (well you did this or you shouldn't of done that) and helping with other damage that was done, made it as painless as possible. And on top of this they gave us Allen's kx with the sx kit as a loaner untill he gets back from his well deserved r&r:face-icon-small-sho
Still wish they would weld a reinforcing strap on, but it held for 55 hours with only a half a weld so maybe for next year.

Ps...just s$itn ya Allen on the loaner....don't fire anyone

Friend of mine's kit broke - crappy welding was to blame. It took him over a month to get it back.. Let's just say he's not thrilled.

The design and performance of the Timbersled is incredible, but the price and the build quality need to improve. For $6k you want something bulletproof.. not something that is going to leave you hanging in a back bowl.. and scratching your head as to how you'll ever recover it.

Either price or quality can change and then I'd say the market demand would be huge for them.. I know $4k would be a lot more reasonable. Proper welds and stronger tubing on the backbone where they get close to meeting up with the swing arm, and from the sounds of it a stronger drive side tunnel panel would be all that is needed.

I love the design and the performance, but its not quite there yet. Hopefully it doesn't give him problems again after they fixed it.
