Yes, I know they dont make them anymore...

I'm looking for feedback from those that have direct experience with this setup.

I understand the install and how they go together,

BUT

I'm looking for input on how they perform, durability, problems??

I didn't even think they were still selling these anymore. I would ask if they are running them on their own sleds and let that be your answer. The problem is that the o-ring in the chain heats up and chain goes boom. you need to replace chain often, and for high HP sleds, this isn't the area where you want to save weight. IMO

Whittaker,

As I said above, I know they are not making them anymore...

Interesting about the chains... did you or a freind have one of these drives with and experience this problem?

Not doubting you, but the exact same DID 530ZVM2 chain is run in High Hp super bikes at 180 mph as well as big 4 stroke dirt bikes running in nasty, sandy, wet, dirty, hot environments with no problems.

I know two guys that have had them, one was on an 05 Skidoo 800 with NOS, and the other with a UnionBay 900 in an edge chassis. Both sleds had issues. I think the reason that these get hotter than on bikes, street or dirt is the lenght of the chain and the HP difference between big bore/Turbo sleds and dirt/street bikes. I think a 1000cc street bike make somewhere in the neighborhood of around 175-180HP as appossed to a NOS/big bore/T-sled. Maybe others have seen a different outcome, but like I said if they worked well, #1why stop selling #2 why not run on your own sled to try and help sell your own product. The 900 polaris that they built was the last sled that they ran this on I think.

I had one on a light weight Polaris. 700 with nitrous. I think chain tension is the most important thing. Too loose and it wears the chain. Too tight and it gets too hot. I think a replacement for the aluminum idler sprocket might help. Something like Polaris uses (roller). Part of the chain problem could be the stress from traction with a track versus the contact patch of a tire. Was racing back to the trucks (about 90 mph) when I hit the button to pass a buddy and boom!!! The chain let go. I saw a blur of a piece come straight up through the lexan hood!
It was so hot it was melting the bellypan so I grabbed it to pull it out and burned through a $100 pair of Klim gloves before I could drop it.:( I can't see that set up lasting one ride on my Tapex. And I kept the chain lubed and tensioned as per the instructions.

Bought some holz goodies from a guy who had one on a complete timbersled chassis. everytime he would hit the throttle the brakes would apply???? Basically the shaft would push over pressing the rotor into the pads applying brake pressure. All work was done by them as well, complete front end, tunnel, skid, drive system and all. Plus he said that it went through chains like no other.

Why not just go with an RMI gear drive? I know they are expensive but I had one in a 425+ horsepower turbo sled (475+ with the nitrous) and had absolutely NO problems at all. I have one sitting on the shelf right now for my next sled project. Best money you can spend on a drive system in my opinion. The way I look at it, if the Timbersled type chain drive system was reliable enough, it would be used by the manufacturers on factory sleds. It has to be FAR easier and cheaper than a chaincase system to manufacture and install, not to mention being far lighter weight than even a Diamond Drive.

Saw a few sleds up here with them and they were stripping the teeth off the top gear. Both sleds were modified 800's, probably around 160 HP. I wouldn't put one in a sled with more than 140 hp.

Nik YOU ARE FULL OF CRAP. WE have not had a gear box fail that has oil in it! Ask Brent Linderman or John Wheelock . John's Yami that holds the record for 500 feet of just over 4 seconds & 130 mph has a lot more 160 hp. I will give anyone a new box free if it failed with oil. If anyone would like talk to me call 1-815-868-2405. Nik has been on here before spewing crap, I thought it was time to call you out. Thanks. Ron RMI

are you sure nikoli is talking about the RMI drive or the timbersled setup?

Douche bag, before you bash me why don't you try and figure out what drive system I'm talking about. I'm not talking about the RMI, I'm talking about the Timbersled drive.

What other crap have I spewed, lol. Please find it and copy it in here as I have no idea what you're talking about...oh wait, neither do you.

Mountain horse, I think you get the picture though. Like Bigs said, call Alen and ask him, but he's not selling or using them anymore so that should tell you something because he is a stand up guy and won't sell what won't work.

Ive never heard Nikolai say anything but good things about the system he had on his rev. Come to think of it, ive never heard him bash......period.
