tie rod ends

Anyone know where to get a good deal on the tie rod ball joints??
I have my motor out of my 05 700 edge and I want to replace all the the ball joint ends while I can get to them. :D
It's now or never !:face-icon-small-con

Thanks

I’m doing the same thing on a 03 RMK. The poo dealer wanted like 35 bucks each or something. Called QA-1 talked to the tech guy. He recommended a stainless joint part numbers are GMR6TS and GML6TS. Went to the local race car shop and ordered em. HA $12.39 each. Appears that the only difference is the length that threads into the aluminum is about ¼ inch shorter. I’m going to use them.

I’m not sure if its nylon but yes there is something in there. The cheap metal to metal ones were like 5 or 6 bucks. I might add if you go this way put some anti seize or some thread lube of some sort on. Aluminum filings on stainless threads is the best loctite money can buy.

While that is a great option, be careful what your using the stainless tie rod ends on and see if you can find high strength stainless. Common stainless steel cannot be hardened due to the low carbon content in it. Stainless is just slightly stronger than a grade 2 steel. For steering I can see stainless tie rod ends to not be an issue. But since it's relatively easy to bend grade 8 tie rod ends on the suspension components on an edge, I'd stick to the stronger grade 8 metals at those points.

Good point. Got me wondering what these actually are. Called and talked to the big shot at QA-1 in the rod end dept. He said those part numbers are 303 stainless and are Teflon linen not nylon. He says the stock ones were probably nylon linen and that’s why they are not lasting. Also took a file to the factory ones and they are defiantly not hard at all. Didn’t try the new ones…..

Makes you wonder if they just "coat" the stock ones gold to look like hardened grade 8 :face-icon-small-con

The "gold" is cadmium plating...used for corrosion resistance...common even in grade 2 fasteners at times.

The ones in the pic from QA1 don't look like the high load/strength rod ends...

I'd go with something that has the highest load rating for that size rod end so that you are not replacing them again.

My 2 cents.
