How cool that you posted the little bald lookout. We were just up there yesterday and talking about when that was torn down. We think it was 1978 or so.

The demise of Little Bald is an interesting story.

In the summer of 1978 the FS installed a propane fridge in the LO. A week or so later it rained so the Lookout took a day off and left the tower.

Cleman Mt. Lookout, staffed by the DNR, was still up. She radioed the Naches RD with a smoke report. Her azimuth went right over the top Little Bald and Old Scab.

Being as it was wet up there the dispatcher told her to just watch it and if the smoke got any bigger to call back.

A few minutes later she called back and reported that the smoke was growing and she could now see flames.

They sent a fire crew up to check it out. They arrived in time to report that the Lookout had burned down.

Wow, this post totally made my day! I bet those Phazers were the bees knees back then. I know I loved mine!

I could be wrong, but the sled next to the Phaser looks like an Exciter, and those weren't made til '87.

Yes, that is an Exciter in the post I labeled as 1982. It was actually taken in late 1986 or early 1987. I saw my Enticer in the photo so labeled it 1982. I upgraded to a Phaser in Dec 1987, I think.

I posted the wrong photo. Here's the one I was thinking about. It was taken at tripod Flats in Feb. 1980. I have a real good memory but it just isn't very long.

Jefferson snowmobile race track across from the Gold Run Cafe on Chinook pass. WSA weekend Jan 28, 1973.

Bear Cr hunter's cabin up Little Naches. Feb. 1973

Great pics! I vaguely remember the races as Jefferson, they quit doing them when I was pretty young. The scoring shack is still standing, but that's all that's left of it. I've tried for the last 15 years to talk Tim into letting us race there again, but he is not interested at all. Said the reason they quit doing it was because of all of the garbage and damage that was left behind after every race that he had to take care of.

Ski Dooing on the South side of St. Helens. April 1975.

Spirit lake April 1975. The Bunk and Cook house at the Forest Service work center. Now under the mud flows from Mt. St. Helens' Eruption.

"On the basis of its youth and its high frequency of eruptions over the past 4,000 years, Crandell, Mullineaux, and their
colleague Meyer Rubin published in February 1975 that Mount St. Helens was the one volcano in the conterminous
United States most likely to reawaken and to erupt "perhaps before the end of this century."

American River Guard Station on Chinook Pass 1970.
Bethel Ridge 1972. Notice the large clear cut in the distance on Pine Grass Ridge on the right side of the photo. It's still an open area.
Jefferson's Race Track 1970. That looks like a Ski Doo Hog Track (Double Track) leading the pack. Probably about to be lapped.
