Throttle Safety Switches?

2010 800 RMK.

1. How do the throttle safety switches work?
2. What part does throttle tension play?

There is one switch behind the thumb pivot point I assume. I see no other switches! Is the TPS the main check for stuck cable along with the pivot point?

Thanks for your help,

Idaho Bill

On the carbed models there are 2 safety switch which are wired in series with emergency kill switch. When looking at throttle movement you should be able to see that the pivot pin is in a oval shaped hole and when the throttle level is pushed pin moves to back of hole. 1 of the switches is behind the pin and when pin moved it closes that switch. The other switch is near the other end of the lever and should be in closed position when lever is at rest. When everything is OK 1 safety switch is always closed. To work correctly the cable has to be adjusted to remove slack this will allow switch by cable to close. To test system start sled hold the pin so that it does not move and apply throttle motor should die. On CFI models there is only one switch at the pivot pin I am not sure about TPS it may have second switch.

My 2010 RMK does not have a second thumb switch were the cable comes out. My buddies 2011 PRO also does not have the second switch. We both looked, there is only one switch on the thumb pivot. There is a hole were one could be put. That must be all there is. How does cable tension affect starting? I need to know for those back country "why won't it start?"

Thanks,

Idaho Bill

WStilson:
You are correct CFI models only have the one switch I have updated prior post maybe some knows if the second switch is in TPS.

Spoke to polaris mechanic today seem the second switch (in throttle block) was removed in 2007 on CFI sleds. TPS does tell the ECU that sled is at idle. Kill switch and throttle safety switch are not in series on CFI sleds. Also slack throttle cable adjustment does not cause CFI sleds to die as was the case with carb sleds.
