Throttle issues

Silber turbo

The sled came with the high-rise Pro Tapers, but I switched them out to a much lower, Cheetah Factory Racing (Chris Brown bars). From what I can see, the throttle cable is free and not binding on both left and right full lock turns. However, on cold/deep days, the damn throttle is sticking...like, bad.

I have the throttle free-play adjusted as per the service manual. Today for instance, it was ~10 degrees, and over the hood powder. The throttle feels different, like the cable is being dragged through sand, and the throttle lever sometimes doesn't return. When I come to a stop, the throttle is still partially open (RPMs are at 3-4k!) I have to physically push the throttle closed for it to idle normally.

Besides being annoying, this is downright dangerous, as I said, I'm running a Silber turbo..and I've had it happen at least a handful of times today, I was WOT, and the throttle stuck. I had to bail off and rip the tether out.

Is there something I can check? Yeah, there is ice building up, but come on, it's a snowmobile... this is going to happen.

I run into this constantly when its deep. It seems to be small amounts of ice building up between the lever and were it rests against the mount. Ice also builds around the bar near the hinge point so when the lever returns to normal it binds around the bar. Total PITA

This.....and it doesn't hurt to spray WD40 down the cable from time to time

Keep a small can of aerosol lock de icer handy.

Give it a squirt now and then.

It happens at 22-28* usually.

Not when cold or warm.

ive had this exact same situation last two times out(2nd and 3rd ride on brand new 17) cable would sometime seize wot. had to pull side panel and wiggle to cabel to finally get it to release. never had this issue on any other sleds. is the routing allowing moisture to build up in the housing somewhere?

Thinking about trying a Cat throttle assembly. The cat assembly has more space between the lever and block. I find the main problem is snow packing between the lever and mount. Compresses and makes ice, preventing throttle from closing. Cable will freeze in some conditions too, really fun when the cable pops out of the lever every 10 minuets.

Riding yesterday in 3'+feet of fairly dry snow was awful for two of us on Pros. '14 cat having no problems at all

Are you sure that boot/rubber sleeve over the cable adjuster (at the top) is ok? Had this issue before and when I separated the boot to adjust the throttle cable free play, it inverted in the middle and it did not go back together right.

I spray my throttle block with heavy silicone spray every morning and wipe off the excess. The ‘12 was notorious for this also.

I've had this happen often to me. What I've recently started doing was using RainX and applying it to the throttle area and the hinge pin/hole. Seems to help and lasts a few rides. I'm probably going to start carrying the spray lock deicer for when it wears off during the ride.

Always an issue for me on deep days. Non-Polaris throttle seems to help. Still not perfect. Will try bring some de icer with that sounds worth a try. Seems that certain riders who really dig the bars in struggle with this more than other.
