three vs four place trailers

For those of you that have owned both, what are the operational differences between a three-place and a four-place trailer? Is the larger trailer significantly more difficult to operate at the common parking areas, etc? IOW is it just as tough to use a four as it is a three, or is the three really that much easier to use?

I’m looking towards the future and wondering if it makes sense to go ahead and get the four-place now instead of getting a three-place and then upgrading later.

Any other tips on what to look for (“must haves”) in a 3+ trailer?

Thanks!

I've had both (3 place Charmac and 4 place Mirage) and here is what I have found: not much 'operational difference' between 3 and 4 place, about the same in the parking lot, 4 place tows much better than 3 place, I think you drive more w/ a 4 place especially if you have buddies who don't have an enclosed. My advice would be to buy the 4 place and skip the upgrade later. If I had to do it over again that's what I'd do.

4 place all the way!

Plus if you decide to sell it, a 4 place will probably be easier to sell!

I have a 3 place. Definitely want a 4 place. Even when towing just 3 sleds all the time...

Three place: You always have a buddy that ends up being the 4th. Guess where the 4th sled ends up? The back of the truck.

Four place: Not much more expensive than the three placer, not much heavier, and is nice to have that extra spot for gear, ice houses, an extra "spare sled" etc.......

Go with the four placer

another thing to ad is I just seen a guy who had a triton 3 place with a single axle! looked like it was gunna break and towed like chit!!!! Tandems tow WAY better!!!!!!!

3 place for me. More people have 4 place trailers so chances are if you need 4 places someone will have it. 3 place is a little lighter and easier to get in and out of the tighter canyons. Also parking is much easier, takes less space in your driveway. I like to fly solo a lot and meet my buddies so the 3 place feels better for the days I have only one sled in there. I have a 19' and there is ample room for 3 sleds if put in from the front door. Most dealers will tell you you need a 21' box for 3 sleds, not true at all.

Four place all the way!!! your paying for and pulling the extra axle and almost the same amount of weight with both. Go to the manufactures website and compare the weights. And cost isn't much difference. For the couple hundred pounds difference you'll never notice it in the truck.
Make sure to get the extra head room too nothing worse than a trailer you can't stand straight up in.

Or when you are loading and forget to keep the height of the trailer in mind as you go up the ramp and put a nice crease in your forehead, and then swear your butt off for 30 minutes as blood is rushing down your face.

Not that this has ever happened to me, I just have heard about it.:D
