Threads for homebrewd snowbikes

Hi guys I just joined this forum, my name is ryan...I have a 2011 yz450 and thinking of making my own snowbike. I have zero knowledge on how to go about it, but im pretty decent at fabbing stuff. going to get a 96 skidoo f3 tomorrow and use the track suspention and tunnel to start..... I was wondering if anyone knows of a good thread on here for ruffly the same setup im using, to lead me in the right direction... Any pointers are great appreciated.. Thanks

You can pick up an older Timbersled kit for around 2500 if you're looking hard. I think it would be really tough to make a kit yourself for less than that. At least not one that actually works well and reliably.

I agree with Egesleder. Unless you really enjoy building your un stuff. For me time is every thing. Which ever way you go make sure your having fun. I'm always giving my riding buddy a hard time for how many hours he spends modifying his machine compared to hours of use. But he enjoys building too.

ya im really into fiddiling with ****....I come from a 4x4 rock crawling background so im pretty decent with fabbing. I told my girfriends father what I was doing and he ended up giving me his 85 articat jaguar.... Gonna take it apart this weekend and see what I can come up with

Search for post from Sweedenturbo, he's probably done most builds around here.

Then maybe my users name and threads in this forum. I asked about this stuff, and got a great link to a guy who did a really great build using a snowmobile platform.

In google, go to more, then even more, and you can do a patent search. The option to do a patent search is under Specialized Search.

Search for snow bike and it is amazing how many results will come up with diagrams and stuff from places like yamaha, arctic cat, etc. lots of ideas to be found and designs made by professionals.

I plan on buying a front ski cause I cant use the ones I got...as they are leaf spring front mount lol, old style. but I do like that setup you guys posted....and I read and found a site called surplus center, where I can get all my sprockets and bearings....just need and idea on how to mount the skid to the dirtbikes swingarm spot..

homebrew

all the factory units on the market started as homebrew experimants, yes you can make one, I built my first one with lots of cat parts, unnecessary. Helps to have access to somebody with a lathe. The time saver is buy a good rear suspension, even then you will likely need to fab some arms.

I have spent the last four years on snowikes I built. The up side is you can make mods quickly and without fear, the downside is you will be planning the next bike as you are finishing your first edition.

Check all the past threads, lots of good thinking put into some of the DIY kits.

If you have facebook, get member in the group "vi som bygger snowbikes bergshästen" 99% are in Swedish but you can use google translate. You have 1000+ pictures there. It's a group there people build their own snowbikes and post pictures. Look it up, you get many great ideas and help too.

The thread is messed up with missing photos in the early posts.
I've reposted all the missing pics at the end of the thread so now you can see the progress of the build.
