thoughts on 2010 Dragon 163

I read the sticky on the dragons but since I am looking at a '10 I felt like I wanted a little more feedback. (a lot of the thread was regarding the 08,09).

I am looking at a 10 Dragon 800 - 163 with 700 miles. 7500 bucks.

I would appreciate your opinion on this. I am not a Polaris person (yet) so I don't know if any issues I might encounter are a big deal.

I currently ride a 09 Yamaha XTX highly modified (by me) so I am very comfortable working on a sled. No intimidation regarding anything I have to fix but I would not want to buy it and have to drop 1K into it this season just so I can ride it. (next season, yeah maybe okay, I'm flexible.)

I can say it is very clean, well kept and the owner has paid attention to the details of upkeep.

I really appreciate your input,

i havent had any problems with my 10 D8 163, and it has 1000 miles on the sled, but i also did everything possible to the sled that they were having problems with and it has treated me very well. i also have this sled posted up for sale.

am I going to have to buy a fix it kit for this engine....?

If I was to buy the sled that is what I would do. Just for piece of mind. Good luck.:face-icon-small-hap:face-icon-small-hap:face-icon-small-hap

I completely agree. I wouldn't even ride an 800 CFI for 1 minute let alone 1 day unless a Fix Kit from MTNTK was installed.

However, once the Fix Kit is installed, the sled and motor is awesome and compares to the best of the best motors IMO. I would have no issue taking it as far back into the most rugged backcountry possible with the deepest snow and least amount of trails.

price seems high to me. For that price i would buy a 11 pro with a few more miles and a warranty left on it.. I just bought a boosted 09 assualt 155 with 1100 miles for 5200 but im also having a quite a few problems with it as far as the electronics go.. so get what you pay for i guess

Just my $0.02 but I would stay clear. If the engine doesn't give you grief there is a very good chance you will have electrical issues (voltage regulator, stator, etc). Between myself and my 2 brother-in-laws, we have a 2010 rmk 800 assault, dragon and regular rmk. I sold my assault this fall (only put around 20 miles on it since buying it the year before with about 640 miles on it total). Had no issues but I didn't want to risk it. My bro-in-laws still have their 2010s...and both just took out the voltage regulator and stator within a day of each other. We are hoping the computers didn't fry as well. The Dragon has about 800 miles on it (slp pipe and pcv) and the regular RMK has about 1400 miles (bone stock). If you do decide to roll the dice on a Dragon the very first thing I would do is install a PCV (and a map from someone like Dyno-Tech Research) to add mid range fueling and take away some fuel on the top end. I would put the money you could spend on a fix kit or pcv and put it towards a 2011 rmk if you are stuck on Polaris. Myself, I ended up with a brand new 2011 M8 sno pro and haven't missed my assault one bit.

Fix kit and a Pcv and they are a great sled but 7500 is too much. If I was gonna spend that kind of money it would be on a pro.

I can agree with electrical, I just had to take my sled to the dealer for the first time in three years because of an electrical issue. A voltage reg definitely went on it but im having them check everything because there is a chance it could of taken out my stator and ECM. NIGHTMARE! Im not looking forward to paying the repair bill

Im in Canada and i still feel that price is a little high, I would not pay more than 6 considering your going to need a VR and a fix kit. Everyone who is unaware of the dragon issue still think their sleds are worth 9-10 grand stock with no fix/updates. If you went on Kijiji here you would have some laughs!

DRAGON!!!!!!!!!!!!

My dad has a 2010 dragon with the 155 track and loves it. Only problem every had was faulty voltage regulator. Other than that its great! :cheer2:

P.S. I think polaris gave an extra warranty on the voltage regulator. Apparantly, its a common thing to have to replace. Ask if the machine has had it replaced or whether its warranty is still good.

My 09

My 09 has 3350 miles on it and all is good. Not all fails. And I kick the **** out of it. Planning on puttong more mods on it cause I love the no issues story I got so far. Love how it handles and if **** happens, I'll give some love back and keep it alive.
