what are you doing for a heat shield to protect the coolant and oil bottles? I have an 07 rmk with a carl's 797 and just picked up some race pipes for it. they fit in ok but one of the pipes actually bumps against the oil reservoir and is getting the coolant bottle hot enough to deform it. fyi, the coolant and oil bottles are the exact same on my 07 as they are on my 09 dragon. an ideas? thoughts? pictures would be great. thanks

my slp twins on my d7 are about 3in away i dont have any problems, i wraped them with header wrap this year wich dropped temps a ton under the hood. also lastyear i was rideing in about 6-7ft of bottomless fluff at -10deg out the snow plugged my vents and it got so hot under there my airbox melted down onto my pipes lol, so i would sugest wrapping them

Mine don't touch (09 800 with SLP twins) but they are darn close...the throttle cable is right there but I cover and wrapped everything extensively with high quality aluminum heat tape and have two years of non-issue use.

thanks. yeah, i believe these are polaris race twins made to fit this motor and chassis. i bought them used though carl's. the were take offs of some other dudes sled. chris didn't have any specific ideas.

Can you either change it's position with a hose re-alignment or if it's just barely touching I'd get out the heat gun and carefully distort the bottle enough to get a heat shield of some sort built. We used to use different bottles back in the day on custom stuff so you may have to find a smaller or different design coolant res but that requires a lot of messing around! Just getting it so it doesn't rest on it and building a decent heat shield should do the trick.

actually that is the direction i was thinking of going. it only distorted the coolant bottle above the coolant level and i didn't have any heat tape on it. (i know, i know). so my next try is just to heat tape the hell out of it. i think that will work for the coolant. for the oil res i put on three layers of pipe wrap and then 4-6 layers of heat tape. we'll see how that works for now. but i was thinking of pulling the res bottle and possibly cutting off the part that contacts and then reforming/fixing the hole with that Lords plastic repair stuff. i have some and it seems to work pretty well. we'll see what happens. thanks again.
