Third ride of the season, complete engine meltdown. opinions on replacement needed.

So went for my third ride of the season on my newly acquired 05 800 summit this last sunday, and i had a dead hole develop after playing around in a meadow 50 km's away from the truck. With the cold temps(-10), dark approaching quickly, and no way to get the truck to the sled, the decision was made to ride it out. Now that i look back on it, that was a horrible idea, but its done.

Im now looking at options for a motor. due to one jug, the crank, the bottom end, and the head being thrashed I am no longer eligible for core discounts so this is getting expensive quick.

I have been quoted 3500 + 700(core) for a shortblock and head, and exhaust pieces from my local dealer.

a complete longblocks with powervalves and reeds and boots is 3425.12 from babbits skidoo parts in the states, but then i have to deal with shipping, and the border, and tax.

also thinking about getting one of the guys to build me a motor, but without a core im screwed...

Does anyone have anything to add for an opinion.
Oh, and if your wondering. that wrist pin, and conrod, came out my pipe when i pulled it appart.

Cheers, Cam

Ugh...I would have to say "You win" as far as me seeing bizarre things come out of an exhaust pipe.

CVTech out of Quebec has complete shortblock 800's for $2019.00
http://www.cvtech-aab.com

Includes
Crankcase
Pistons
Crankshaft
Re-Nicasil cylinders
Gaskets
Rod bearings

Price does not include core exchange.

I have dealt with CVT and they have been great to me.

I am from ontario and I bought an engine from this place out of Michigan http://deesmarine.com/ I paid $1100 for an 05/800 pretty much had to put the carbs/exhaust on. It come with recoil. Far as shipping, FedEx is actually not that bad, it will prolly be less than $200 "Ground" to get anything from USA to canada and FedEx takes care of the broker fees and all that.

The SeaDoo clinic is also one of the best places to buy complete engines, long blocks, short blocks.

An engine with shipping box is around 90 lbs, you can call any courier company and they will give you complete turn-key price for shipping from any postal code in canada/usa to your house.

That should buff right out! lol

Listen to the man. Go with CVT.

If your on a tight tight budget, Ebay it or craigslist it. I can usually always find wrecked sleds with lows miles people are parting out if you spend some time searching!

Good luck!

Wow, that's some great advice, thanks.
I have managed to find a used 06 800 for sale for 1500. even has a ypipe on it.
Are these two years a interchangable item or will I be plagued with problems if I buy it?

Thanks again, cam

Dang that is just plain nasty.........I agree with Joe you win!

The 06 is a Ptek motor, a little different than the non Ptek 05 800HO

WOW, that has to be THE worst melt down I've seen! Good luck with the new mill.

pardon my ignorance, but what exactly are the differences between the two? i see that there is a line off the powervalves on the 06, and that it is not identified as a R.E.R motor which has me worried. Would i be able to swap sensors, or anything to make it work? trying to get back into the season with a minimal amount of cash, because i recently spent it on the sled, and accessories for it as well. opps!

Ouch, worse than mine. My 06 had a nasty meltdown, same deal except my I didnt have any parts come out the exhaust.

I bought a rebuilt case from someone on the forum here and added an 827 from Rk Tek. CV for new jugs.

good luck!

Basicaly, the differance is the power valves and electronics( ECU V.S. MPEM), the 06 valves are actuated a little different. The 06 motor will work but you need to put 05 power valves in it. The 06 is a R.E.R motor so that wont be an issue. You may need to change the stator, I'm not sure on that.

Part the sled out or sell as a rolling chassis to recoup some of your money, buy another complete sled, and go ride this weekend.

*not necessarily a recommendation, but an option nonetheless
