I have spent a bit o time trying to figure where it all went bad around here. I can see some possibilities for a turn around w/o giving away dollar amounts that I have to count the zeros on and try and figure out what that value is...I think history might be worth looking at.
resource spending would be the smartest thing. it spends money here on wages, transportation, then it goes to the mills which sees more labor and consumables.....followed by more transportation. tap into some of our own oil and we could get on top of this thin in a hurry.
as long as we can't log, mine and use our own oil we are gonna be at everyone elses mercy.
it's time we come to grips with the fact that we either need to live in smaller more efficient houses and share them with our families or actually log a mountain and process that timber here........or mine ore.......or we can buy foreign materials and go further down the tube.
living smack dab in the middle of logging and mining communities I can tell you that a mill worker used to be common and well paid here. now you can't work with your hands and still live in coeur d' alene. the mills are closed, mining is all but dead, our local lumber stores are loade with wood from canada, but not the us. now the large tech companies are laying off workers and they only have skills to do things that chineese and indian workers can and will do for 1/100th the wage.......they are not gonna come here and log idaho.
we spent a great many years as a self reliant and self servant country with high levels of export. the technology explosion made many very wealthy but, like boots and calculators the chineese have learned how to build what we build and make it functional for way less.......we need to stop that.
if obama wants to tax something, hows about a huge import tax.
