Thinking of buying a Ducati but don't know about these bikes?????

Ok so here is the deal I found a 2000 Ducati Monster that was laid down that I can get for probably 2k or less. It has 16k miles and was in excellent shape before the wreck. It would be an extremely easy fix mostly cosmetic. The only thing is I dont know jack about Ducati bikes. Anyone with experience with these bikes please chime in.

Call a local dealer and ask what they charge for oil changes, valve adjustments, timing belts and other recommended services for a bike of this vintage and mileage.
(make sure you're sitting down when they give you an answer)

valve adjustments on a desmo twin are not like what you think........ WAY different and unless you've actually worked on the desmodronic valve train it is not something I'd wanna do without an experienced Duc Tech lookin over my shoulder...

Ducatis are among the most desirable bikes on the planet and some of the most beautiful bikes ever put on the road... one of those rare bikes that stirs the souls, not just quickening your heartrate... nothing on earth like them imho...

Ok so maybe not valve adj but oil change and what not i can handle. Also I don't plan on bein a die hard that rides in the snow and stuff so service work wont be too bad.

general maintenance stuff like oil changes/etc is no different that any other bike... they are good bikes though, the 2v air cooled desmo twin is a rock solid motor... just make sure you ask about service records on it before you make an offer and find out if the valves have been adjusted, good bikes otherwise... though in that genre of motorcycles I'd take a buell XB12s... its the equal in terms of character and has good performance as well as being super easy to work on...

Well I personally have other bikes I would rather have as well but if I can get this one on a good deal then I'll be more than happy with it.

It's a pretty trustworthy seller and I got loads of pics so I think I'll be ok. I do wrecked cars all the time and have never had much of a problem. And where it was just laid on one side it shouldn't be too bad.

another side note, i believe these bikes have a dry clutch, so pulling up to a stop light you can't just sit there with the clutch engaged and leave it in gear, you have to put it in neutral or you'll wear it out and it'll make a god-awful noise
