Thinking about the Sledders we've lost and a Pre-Season safety tailgate meeting?

Well, it looks like the season is off to a start. A lot of people are talking about heading out this weekend.

I know this happens every year, people are in a rush to get out, and they get lost, stuck overnight or injured.

I hope people try and use their heads and go out prepared. Im sure there's going to be some search and rescue stories coming this weekend.

What does everyone have planned to help prevent these situations?

I'm going to try and get on an AST1 course this year. My work schedule didnt cooperate last year.
Im going to make sure that Im prepared with all my emergency/survival equipment my first ride this year, even if its a short one.

Here is to the riders that we've lost in the past :rip:; and here is wishing and hoping that everyone rides safe this winter and comes home after every trip :tea:

Let it snow!! :smow: Ride safe and bust up some snow!!

Great idea! Definitely something to be thinking about.

Time to put new batteries in the beacons (old ones should have been out over the summer)...get some practicing in...hone the skills.

Go through the backpack, resupply/stock up on needed items...

All sorts of things to do. Just like pre-season maintenance on our sleds, we need to do the same with our avy/safety gear. :)

Just put new batteries in my beacon, went through my pack, survival supplies, medical kit, replaced batteries in flash lights and headlamps, and my Garmin Rino is curently charging.

Last night went through the gear on my sled, and just finished up pre-season mait on the entire sled.

Other then that just use good judgement on where and when you ride.

Have fun! Eric

Does everyone know how to contact their local avy center to get reports on the conditions out there?

Have you taken an avy course? Do you know what to look for while out riding?

We lost a fellow snowmobiler today.....an experienced skier lost his life last week. Avalanches ARE happening...we can't afford to be complacent. We NEED to be aware, knowledgeable, prepared, safe, and help everyone we can to be the same.
