Thinking about new XP

Made the mistake of going into the local dealer Saturday to pickup some needed parts and with the prices on the new XP its looking real tempting. Thinking about the non X as I have Fox Floats on the Rev and would put them on the XP. Any suggestions on the X over the standard would help my wandering mind. Also are the rewinds that big a problem. Should I go electric start? MERRY CHRISTMAS AND RIDE SAFE

My next Doo is gonna be E-Start. I complained all last season about pulling that darn rope.
First pull this year, in the garage, I pulled it and felt something go snap in my shoulder. Feels like a dislocation. I dislocated my shoulder years ago and have been easy with it for years. Beginning of this year and starting with a sore shoulder. E-Start all the way.

it's your choice if you have the money hell yeah buy the darn thing lol but if you like the rev which i do you would stay with it, I find the XP more stiffer ride then the rev It's not for me I like the less tension on my rev its nice and i feel like i can move the sled all the time.. maybe you just have to adjust to it????

PS hope you make the right choice have fun and merry christmas back from Alberta

XP is a very different machine than the REV.
The lighter weight is immediately noticeable.
It's much nimbler, ballance point is further forward than rev.
The rear of the sled almost needs you to stand on it to get it to grip.
Motor and clutching feel are standard Doo issue (good power, heavy downshifting)

I'd nix the e-start, then again I nix a lot of what most people like to have on a sled to loose weight. If you want an XP for the lighter weight, you'll likely need to dig it out at some point, and if you can't start the sled with a standard starter how are you going to dig it out of deep snow? I don't know of an electric-jack for sleds yet. ;-) Sure it's a luxury, but I see it as dead weight (save 7sec four or five times/day), and one more thing to fail.

As always the dealer is everything - the product is only 70% baked by SkiDoo.

Best of luck!

My .02 cents....

First off, I bought my XP last year late in the season, and was having a hard time getting used to it before my season ended. It DOES have a learning curve. This year is a different story. I get better everytime I go out. XP's absolutely ROCK! Every time I go riding, I am amazed at how the sled makes me look like a GREAT rider, when I am a mediocre one at best. Once you get used to the chassis, you will amaze yourself at how easy it is to get around on. Powder, hillclimbs, technical riding on a steep slope in the trees?? No problem. Incredible sled.

I bought the '08 Everest. My buddy bought an '09 X package. Both sleds are 154's. After riding both, the only thing that I can honestly say that I wish mine had, is the fancier guage package, and after all the trouble that I have seen that people have had with it, I think that it is a moot point. Furthermore, for my style of riding, I do not notice any difference in how the shocks affect either sled. I ordered mine WITH e-start. LOVE it. You will NOT notice the added weight, especially once you ditch that incredibly huge and heavy stock can. Besides, lets be honest, if you get stuck on an XP, you are going to be in deep snow anyway, right? And that means that you are going to have a ton of snow packed into every nook and cranny on that sled. The weight of the starter and battery will not be noticed. After having this discusson with somebody about snow-added weight, I chipped away ice and snow off of my sled the other night after a day of riding. I put ALL the ice/snow into a 5gal bucket and let it melt in the shop. I ended up with THREE gallons of water afterwards, not including what was trapped under the pipe. What is that? Twenty pounds?? I say go with E-start, you will love it, and it's rewards more than overshadow any mild weight penalty.

When I bought my XP, I was actually looking for a REV. After riding both, I am really glad I picked the XP instead.

If you buy an XP, I guarantee you won't regret it!

I am hoping you meant BACKED by skidoo,,with all the piston problems you don't want to say the baked word, as in piston done to a crisp?????Had 4 buddies go down in the same day...DAMN those baked pistons.....LOL

If you can get the X package for $1000 or less, go with that. The guage package is alot better. The altimeter is nice, and being able to control everything from your handlebars is also nice. If you get the X, you won't have to swap out shocks either. JMO!

LOL. I wasn't referring to pistons - I've never had a problem there - I was referring more to setup - clutching/carbs/suspension/etc.. What comes out of the crate is 70% baked at best. Skidoo puts more emphasis on the dealer to make them run right. I'm fortunate to have a good dealer who rides and spends a lot of time tuning, for example, I never lost a belt in 2008. Another example is when I lost a connecting rod in 2002, they had me back on the snow for days later. The dealer support, while often imperfect, is important.

I've never had a problem with SkiDoo "backing" up their product, and I've had one major and a few minor problems over the years. Everyone's experience is different.

Doo it man! I absolutely love my 08. It didn't get the electric start, but I would probably take it next time.

xp

My 08 xp had electric start and I loved it.I boondock alot and its so much easier to roll it than dig out when you vertical. My 09 doesn't have it and its starts after rolling it in two pulls.I would rather pull twice than haul 22lbs around that's dead weight on the machine.Doc

Well I did it know

Thanks everybody for the input. I am picking up a XP154 today and looking forward to breaking her in next week up on Grand Mesa. A little leery of taking new sled on the trip so I will be taking the old and tried Rev as well. :confused:Wife is shaking her head asking why you are taking both? Be safe and MERRY CHRISTMAS
