Thermostat and temp sensor questions

Picked up my thermostat and temp sensor today. Thermostat install looks pretty simple but I am curious where I should put the temp sensor. Should I put in on the return line to the motor after the bypass or do I want to see temps coming out of the motor? Thermostat does have an extra blocked port on it on the i am guess that is so you can put the by pass in either the side location or the bottom location.

Instructions dont show the temp sensor.

I put mine on the t-stat. T-stat was connected right above the head on my cr500. Figured this would give the most accurate temps of the engine itself.
Pretty much the same thing on my new bike.

Uh oh. I am wondering if I ordered the wrong thermostat. Actually didnt notice until now that there are 2 t-stats. A 130 and 190. Apparently I ordered a 130f stat. Snow was quit deep last weekend and I was having trouble keeping temps up.

Did I order the wrong one?

What temps are we aiming for?

I will definitely need some sort of blanket and pipe wrap.

Take the thermostat out and stick in a pan of water with a temp gauge of some kind. That way you know what temp it's opening at.

I shoot for 160-200. A good thermostat is just part of the equation. You need something to keep snow off your motor too to maintain decent temps.

Called avid up and told them what happened. 25$ they are sending me the 190f one. Not many companies around like that anymore.

Guess I will have an extra t stat or one for sale.

That 130° stat might be for a 2 stroke engine. A 4 stroke wants to operate in the 175°-210° Range. With no cozies and one radiator fully blocked I'm running 165° in powder conditions, and I have a 175° stat in my thermobob. I'm going to look at some small case cozy type things to get temps up a little more.
