thermal image camera

Has anyone experimented with using a thermal image camera for locating buried avy victims? We have a really expensive one here at work we use in our fire brigade and for detecting high temps on motor casings ect. It prompted me to think about it with all these avy victims lately.
I’m sure if a victim was buried pretty deep it might not work but I would think you could see a surface temp delta on the camera for some burials and if you packed one on your sled and started searching right away? thoughts?

BTW these things are pretty cool and look small enough to carry in your pack..

Might work if they werent very deep. Go bury yourself in the snow and have one of your co-workers try and find you and let us know. HAHAHAHA :) I have never used one of these so cant help much but the logic seems like it might work if they are close to the top but the cold of the snow would quickly cover up any heat signatures not close to the surface.

Don't those units go for around $7,000.00

Might be a little spendy for a few people!

I looked into a truck mounted one for our unit while I was in the military, it was going to run us about $65,000 + whatever mounting system we wanted. I'm sure there are cheeper ones but they do get expensive. With all the software, mounting, day and night stuff for it it was going to be a little over 100K.
