First time I've heard of it was in today's paper, so I decided to go find it.

Some of the comments make my blood boil, but you can't argue with idiots without stooping to their level.

Im not a big fan of trapping . to me its about as sportsman like as hunting with dogs and shoting an animal out of a tree. but that is just my opinion.

I think people should think before putting pictures like this on the internet.
I also think leaflickers need to get a grip

hate the people who moved in to our state and don't understand that those the predetors that they put here threaten the ranchers way of life and they should be killed. Hunting, fishing, and running trap lines are the way of life our homesteding ancestors used to survive. God forbid we have to go back to that way of life, but I will tell you who won't live through it. It is those soft green fudgers will be asking for the first bowl of hand out rabbit stew. I will trap just like my great great grand father did in montana out of respect for their way of life.

I am not opposed to trapping, but a quick dispatch is best.

This Footloose Montana group is radical and all started because they got a dog caught in a trap near a trail up in the mountains. So they brought publicity to it and wanted more regulation.

Now, they've changed their tune and gone bigger. Now they not only want that controlled, they want to ban trapping all together.

They can't keep their stories straight....want to keep traps from tailheads or BAN trapping.
They didn't take baby steps. They started small and went BIG right away.

It's like regulating sledding...when the true goal is to BAN it.

SAME thing. That's why I'm opposed to opposing trapping.

I guess that to someone who has no idea about animals and trapping etc. these photos are disturbing but if you have ever seen a pack of wolves shred cattle/sheep or god forbid one of your precious domestic dogs/pets because the population has exploded far beyond what the current habitat can support and they start to pray on whatever else they can find.
Its funny that they wanted wolves reintroduced but think that they are like any other animal. Problem is they are not without management they would become a very big issue very soon. I don't know this for sure but i would speculate that most of the people crucifying this trapper for doing legally what he likes to do and posting it on a forum that is for that purpose, would see no effect of the overpopulation of this species.
In my opinion it is what it is wish he would gotten about 10 more

I am a hunter. I only shoot what my family eats and I dont believe in trophy hunting. Trapping was and still is a way of life...I have no problem with this...but this freakin idiot opened a humungous can of worms when he took this stupid picture of the wolf suffering...which it is. The least he could have done was shoot it as soon as he got there, put it out of its misery and then pose with his kill...like every other hunter does.....no one would have been the wiser !!!! He is stupid for posting these pics and has made all trappers and hunters look like inconsiderate animal haters....he deserves what ever he has coming to him !!!

As a hunter and an avid outdoorsman, I can't say that I am really all that excited about that picture. I believe wolves definitely need to be managed, but I don't believe people should be putting pictures on the internet of any animal suffering. I don't know if I am just getting soft in my old age, but I am not really into killing just for killings sake. I love to eat the elk that I shoot, so if there are wolves in the area interfering and killing every elk that is around, I have a problem with it. The problem is that picture automatically lumps all of us into the same redneck/hillbilly demographic as the dude in the picture. I understand the dilligence that goes into trapping, but for god's sake, just dispatch the thing and then take your picture. My whole life used to revolve around hunting, not so much anymore. With the advent of the Outdoor Channel, Sportsmans Channel, The Pursuit Network, I think it has soured my whole outlook on it. I get so tired of some tank-assed camo clad redneck sitting in a tree shooting a deer and then crying and thanking the lord for the animal. Forget about how they talk about "how hard they worked" to kill it. I personally don't want to be included in that little club. How about dudes like most of the guys I know that hunt on foot, climb mountains, and more often than not get skunked? I suppose that doesn't make for very good tv though. I guess I am ranting. Sorry.

Story is on our local news right now.

Any charges being made against this moron? I wonder what his wife and kids think of his behaviour, if he has any? Imagine being the child of this guy in school and having friends or bullies asking you about this or picking/beating on you because of something your dad did....unfreakinbelievable. Please keep us posted Scott.

read the article....guy works for FWP...didnt break any laws, but thats no excuse to be a dip..he NEVER should have made that pic public

blood in the snow is not from the foot trap....guess some yahoo's stopped and took a couple pot shots at it...while it was trapped on private land during the wolf season

I have no problems with trapping, and my family and i enjoy hunting....but theres some nut jobs in my home state that want to get rid of everything they deem "wrong"

I dont think he'll be charged with anything, since they have investigated and deemed he didnt break any laws....but i doubt thats gonna stop the bunny huggers from spreading false information and cuasing an UN-nessacary stir

it only takes one picture to stir up all kinds of emotions, most people judge just based off these three photos with no background at all. I will say this he should not have posted the pic on the internet. It causes all kinds of problems for everyone because like it or not for so many people that do not know any better that is what anyone who hunts/outdoors-man are like

That guy's great grandfather had his picture taken in that very same spot over 100 years ago with a wolf about that same size and color. He didn't have an iphone, internet or a dumbed down country full of pussies to cloud the issue though. Poor judgement call here is about it. Aebsledder is spot on too.

I agree with the two posts above. Well said.

The news article states that the guy broke no laws so there's nothing to prosecute. However, there are such things as common sense and sportmanship and the guy displayed neither. It doesn't justify the overreaction by the animal lovers but anyone that didn't see that coming is foolish.

This is really not much different from sledders riding into designated wilderness or harassing skiers if you think about it. Aside from breaking the law in the sledders' case, the majority of law abiding and ethical participants are pulled into the same group as the few that are disrespectful and selfish. I, like others have said, am not a big fan of trapping because the animal suffers. He should have dispatched the animal and then taken the pictures.

That's not hunting. It's just cruel and inhumane no matter what's caught in it. I'm from Wyoming and I understand the hunting way and that's not it. Damn shame that's still allowed anywhere for any reason. Even a bigger shame that someone would photograph themselves being proud of it. If you're going to take it, take it quick and clean. Not like that.

Like someone said, he should have put it down as soon as he got there. I don't even like seeing that and I absolutely have no prob with hunting trapping etc..., but to let it suffer, POINTLESS, to put it on the internet = DARWIN AWARD, FN tard.

I think they should suffer too, just like the deer and elk that they eat when there still alive and the asses they eat out of live cows and calfs, maybe the guy forgot his gun to finish it off and had some time to waste as his buddy had to go back and get it from the truck!!! I have no problem with this guy except he was stupid enough to let some of his dumb --- friends let the pics out

Couldn't have said it better.

What would you guys be saying if instead of a wolf that was a crippled deer that a guy had shot breaking the deers leg so it couldn't run away but it was still alive and he posed for a picture? Just because it is a wolf doesn't make it any different.

you can't compare something that is 100 percent a natural part of animal existence with trapping a critter. In fact that might be one of the dumber things I've ever seen on here.

For the record I have zero problem with trapping.
