The thing I dont like bout the 4 strokers....

Jimbo, I'm anxious to try yours again, with some fresh fuel. :) Rob is riding his Nytro MTX around here, (lots of snow) on the tail. He said it runs up to 9400. So we have some ideas for clutching, for Cooke. We think it will be harder on fuel though, so probably carry a gallon or so, of gas.

Geno, did Brandon get your Apex done yet? My sled had fresh fuel in it. There was three gal of fresh 91 from the Sinclair on top of 3.5 gals of semi-fresh 100 LL.:beer;;)

By the time my sled makes it to Cooke again; it will be a different sled when climbing. I'm currently waiting for the Shockwave to arrive so I can install it. That should get the sled RPMs up in the climbs as of when you rode it two weeks ago it was low by about 800 RPMs.

Jim

Just had to toss in my 2 cents, and everybody knows it, cc for cc the two stroke has more, but in the long run, with the right engine and the right work, the 2-smoker can't out perform. I love my yamaka yz250 2smoker, it's fun, but jump on my 450 and it's a whole new world of performance, you simply cannot beat the bigger, better 4-stroke in overall performance across the RPM range, and certainly not in capacity to make useable, predictable power immidietly. And I didn't even start to go off about durability.

Oh ya, I ride a MM700 so I'm not totally biased.

I don't know how old you are , but a few years back when formula 1 still had 1500 cc turbo 4 strokes BMW made over 1200 hp so to make more power per cc you would need to make almost 600 hp with your 700 and as great as they are that is not going to happen.
Even today the normally aspirated F1 engines are pushing close to 1000 hp with a 3 litre displacement------ to keep up you would have to push over 230 hp out of your 700cc 2 stroke.

It is similar to the difference between a diesel truck and a gas. When you get your first diesel you feel it is not as snappy, and it isn't. But the torque and power band is much greater. However you can do things to the diesel to make them snappy, chips etc. I have rode Yami's all my life and have taken some sh7t over it but if you set them up right the little triple will stay with any 800 I ride with. I agree yami stock is conservative. But you have to agree the quality has always been there. I think Yami is on the right track. Lets face it weather we like it or not the 2 stokes will eventually be fazed out. I do not own one, but I have ridden a few and I think it is something you have to get used to. I am waiting for them to trim the weight and work out all the bugs.

I bought my Nytro in hopes that its power band would perform even a little bit like my YZ450F. And for the most part it does. I still have my 800 Poo with cut heads, pipes, ported, V3 reeds, airbox, flowrites... and the biggest difference between the two is that after the throttle is pinned for 9 or 10 seconds, the Poo may or may not burn down (it never has, in fact its always ran great) but that thought is always there.

The 4-stroke on the other hand, just like my dirt bike, gives me no worries in that department. For me piece of mind in the back country is a big deal and that makes a difference when deciding to go over the next ridge or not.

As far as power, the 4-stroke doesn't make nearly the peak power that my Poo does but it makes more usable power in a much wider range of the power band.

Now the fun part, the Nytro is going to loss 70 or so lbs this year, and next year its going to gain 100 hp. Sure its a lot of money but its a couple year project and I'm planning on having the sled 4 years.

I would have to agree that my vector out of the box was not clutched very well but I was never dissapointed with pull of the machine. I geuss what you are trying to achieve with a 4 stroke would not be possible because it generates so much of its tork at a low rpm compared to a 2 stroke having to be a top rpms. What you get with the 4 stroke is constant pull from start to.... Where the 2 stroke you have that very little window to get the power.
