The Mythical Boondocker EBC

It's real, I saw it with my own eyes!! I spent the day riding with Jared, Rocky and Justin from Boondocker. We ran several of the new EBC's on both Polaris's and Cat's and they worked flawlessly. They are a little intimidating at first but once you understand them, they are sweet. We ran some comparisons against a standard boost tee and the spool up time on the EBC equipped sleds was noticeably faster. The altitude compensation is awesome, you can watch it work on the display as you gain elevation. They aren't nearly as big as the pictures on the website make them look. The install takes about 30 minutes and they come with a pretty cool handle bar mount for the Cat. Several of the sleds taken out today were freshly built and it was their first run, all ran perfectly. Guys that have these coming won't be disappointed.

i was wondering if someone could give me a break down of what this thing does and a pic of it mounted and what kits it will work with i know dumb question but im gonna ask anyway

That's encouraging.

After reading through the instructions I was not impressed in the unsophisticated way it appears to work. It appears that all it does is electrically set the duty cycle of the boost solenoid? I.E. you set the % open/closed based on trial and error? No where in the instructions does it talk about the thing being "smart" and adjusting based on a boost PSI like I was told it would. I was sold on it saying it would automatically open the waste gate at a set PSI and hold it there. Also that it would adjust boost as altitude varies to work on a certain HP/octane level. The "altitude compensation" is simply a varied duty cycle that you set and NOT based on PSI either. Sure once you get it set it should work ok, but its just a dumb variable electric valve controller with an altitude gauge!

I really hope I am wrong, but this thing is no where near as advanced as I was led to believe. I REALLY hope it works better than a manual one and it very well should, but it does not appear to be the "set it an forget it" magic solution I was sold on. Just a more complicated way to control the boost.

I would like to see a technical explanation of how it works from BD on here. Hopefully I am totally wrong!

I would expect to see mine any day now and will post pics. Come on BD, surprise me!

Nubbs, the engineer tried to simplify the operation of the ebc, so that those without a tech background would be able to understand the directions. We are still improving the instructions with install photos and a more technical look at the features. When we have those up, i will post them for you, thanks Diann.

I agree that the instructions need improvement. I know you were rushing them out and appreciate the posting of them. I am sure the revision will be better.

I would still appreciate a technical explanation of how it actually works. Then people can UNDERSTAND what it does and not just buy into hype.

The EBC Rocks!!

I also got a chance to ride with Rocky and Jared on Saturday and had an excellent time. We just got the EBC installed on my sled and it worked very well all day. Although it might seem like its over simplified, its not. The adjustability and functions that be come a reality with this Module set the Boondocker turbo system apart from the rest. Here are a few pictures of it on my m. If anyone has questions, dont hesitate to ask.
Also a big thanks to SNOW JW (Justin) and the Boondocker crew, i couldn't be happier with my set up. I assure you guys the EBC is worth the wait.

nice. do you have any better pictures of the mounting bracket?

I don't. i can take my bars off if you want to see the mount. For the standard bars it comes with a bracket that bolts underneath the bar clamp. the EBC slide onto a tab that comes off this bracket. I talked with the Boondocker guys and they also will have a bracket for the telescoping bars. Its has a very clean fit and finish.

thanks Adam. I was trying to wait for the EBC so I could figure out locations for my gauges and such. I kind of knew that was where it was going to go best but i have an O2 gauge mounted there. I do have the telescoping bar I will just see what I can do when it shows up.

I am glad to hear positive reviews. I was and still am sold on the technology. I can't wait to try it myself.

Any input on how it actually controls the boost?

so in a nutshell it controls boost electronicly what does one of those bad boys set you back if you buy it seperatly and do you need a boonie box to run it

Confused

I'm confused, I know I don't have the ebc yet. I have installed this, pressure switch in air box, new piugs for harness and the harness to air temp and pressure switch. Would this be called air density kit, ( I think it is ). Do I need to make adjustment to fuel control box.

thanks

The best thing about this is that everbody thats been riding with Rocky and Jared have great things to say about this unit, How does a guy get on this riding list?

Just give jared a call and say i want to go ride, and they will schedule a day and take you out, thx D :) 1-208-542-4411

How about the boondocker guys working a bit of overtime helping with shipping the ebc's instead of riding? Sorry if I sound bitter but I get cranky when I hear of distributors/dealers riding their turbos with all their parts when I have none and looks like I'll be lucky to see them until after xmas. I'm up here in Canada waiting for a tracking number for this pos ebc. We have 8-10 ft of snow but I can't ride my sled. It sucks having 2 weeks off and riding a backup sled after dropping 5g's on a turbo kit. Starting to get pizzed.

Only the R&D guys were you ridding. The whole fab shop has been working from 6AM to 6-7PM Mon through Sat and there was also some guys there Sun programing the EBC's Sun.

The R&D guys are always willing to work with guys and take them out on rides when they can. There was a total of 10-13 I think brand new turbo's on there maiden voyage all came back with smiles.

So they have 10-13 sleds complete with all the parts to try and sell more kits, but they don't have parts for the kits that they have already sold? Wow, that's customer service.

I'm with bonecracker....I would be royally pissed. I would be calling and telling them to pull the EBC off one of the demo sleds to send to me.

And don't tell me they need 10-13 sleds for R&D unless they have 10-13 R&D riders.

I think what he meant was that 10-13 customer sleds were on their first trip.

maybe I'm wrong.
