This is a copy of the post I put in the new "U Crew" social group which has replaced the Utah Mafia group and forum. I wanted to put this in the Utah section so that those who used to be in the Mafia group, but might not be in the U Crew, have an oppurtunity to read it.
BossRev moderates the U Crew group and forum, as he did the Mafia before:
*********************************************************
The Mafia is Dead, long live the U Crew..
or so it seems..
With the deletion of the entire Mafia social group we lost the thread that would have helped make this post make sense. We also lost some more members who, like me, don’t understand the big deal with the name issue.
The Mafia wasn’t all that “exclusive” a group; no secret password; no special initiation; you didn’t have to kiss Doug’s A$$ or even know a dirty secret about Kim or Kev.
The group started, as Terry recently explained (another good post lost) as one part of “trash talking” by riders from several states. The Utah Mafia, Idaho Militia and the Colorado.. really I don’t know, Terry’s post was deleted before I could copy it or write it down… Our friend Animal was right in the middle of all of it.. making friends, challenging other states to a showdown that never occurred.. out of this grew the “animal ride.”
With the ability in the old forum to have a private topic (circa 2003 to 2007) we had a place that we could trash each other, plan rides, plan lunch or dinner and not have the Whole Wide World (WWW.) reading about it.. we put in a contact list with e-mail and phone numbers (I still have a copy from Dec 2007). Anyone who knew or rode with someone in the Mafia could get an invite; we even let Spencer’s friends in..
Then the Forum started changing.. private topics were trashed.. more “censorship;” some of our members got injured and stopped dropping by as often; some feelings were hurt by the loss of the private area; some moved… new members came on board…
And then one day we were told you had to pay to play and then that the Mafia was dead… More people were upset either on principal or that what had worked for us for nearly 10 years was now a mess.
Regardless of who “moderates” it what I want is a place that people I trust can chat; trash; Brag; plan; and party. A place that allows us all to remember who we are and our friends, past and present – regardless of basic or premium membership in the main forum.
Without deleting all the threads I would have thought, with all the other questionable upgrades to this forum, we could have changed the name of the Mafia social group and then set it up so basic members had free run of our threads. At the very least we could have built the new social group, gotten our minimum number of members for privacy, and then moved the Mafia threads that were significant to the new group.
In my prior posts that no one but Jacob might have had a chance to read I listed those who I recall were the Mafia members… Instead of doing that again let say that all those who have been pushed away I hope find their way back here when we’ve shown this area is a private and free zone.
Jacob: I can send you the 2007 contact list (user names) if you care to send invites to the rest.
