Over my god damned dead ****ing body will they re-instate the ****ing 55mph speed limits.

http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/07/03/warner.speed.limit.ap/index.html

WASHINGTON (AP) -- An influential Republican senator suggested Thursday that Congress might want to consider reimposing a national speed limit to save gasoline and possibly ease fuel prices.

Why don't *******s who do nothing but drive around town stop buying 3/4-ton trucks because they're marketed as "SUV"'s first, then maybe we'll talk about this?

I absolutley mother ****ing REFUSE to drive 55mph on the interstate and I am more than willing to pay for the gas to drive 75.

If you are that god damned concerned about gas then YOU ****ing drive 55 to save gas money.

I dont think its to do with fuel prices, people have slowed down, less speeders, less cashola from tickets. So they lower the limit to what 80% of peeps are driving at and now they have ticket revenue again with the remaining 20% still hard at er. My take on it

I should of known it would be Warner who proposed this. I doubt that it will happen, but then again you never know. Like the song goes (I can't drive 55!)

Sorry, but you are completely wrong. People have not slowed down or reduced their driving due to the high fuel prices.

I beg to differ.

I drive less, a lot less.
When I do drive, I drive close to the speed limit. (and nobody is passing me)
I used to drive 5-20 mph over all of the time.
It's become a choice.
Less money spent on fuel means more money for things that actually mean something to me.

We were on the road today, July 4th, & the streets & highways were noticeably more desolate than normal.
I believe people are changing their driving habits.

This is far past a minor inconvevience.
This is a crisis that will domino greatly into most peoples homes like an economic plague.:(

It will get much, much worse before it gets any better.

Oh wow. I could probably post a few dozen sources that show people are driving considerably less but I'll just post this one that contains the statement, "The Department of Transportation said figures from March show the steepest decrease in driving ever recorded."

I'm sure people are driving less, but reducing the speed limit is as horse **** of idea as I've heard yet.

Buy a god damned car, not a f*cking "SUV" and watch how much gas we save

I'm sorry, but this phenomenon of soccer moms and excursions in florida and whatnot needed to end before it ever started. That right here would have been a much better solution to the problem. Start requiring people to get CDL's to drive a vehicle with a GVWR of 6,000-lb or greater, and viola, you won't have ever jackoff in suburban new york thinking they need an excursion or suburban or whatever

Speed limits are gay.

Even though I have slowed, I respect those who are driving fast.
I try to stay out of their way, make it easy for them to pass etc.

There are some clowns out there who intentionally try to hold others up, they deserve to be on the ugly end of a road rage tantrum!

Keep in mind, many of the speeders are out there trying to make a buck, give them a break.

Is your reading comprehension that bad? He said people aren't driving as fast, not that people aren't driving as much.

I'd like to know where he lives where that is actually the case. I have yet to see anyone noticeably slow down their driving on I-80, and I drive it more then I probably should. Not to mention the two lanes here in Wyo where if you are doing the speed limit you are holding up traffic.

Thanks Supplicate, that's exactly my point. On I-80 and two lane roads in SE Wyoming people are not slowing down one bit, and the traffic has not decreased. Maybe in some of your peoples areas that's the case, but not where I live. The traffic for the 4th of July weekend has been absolutely horrible the last few days. It blows my mind, because I would have thought that people would slow down and reduce their fuel consumption........it hasn't happened here or the front range of CO.

Exactly. On the 3rd driving from Casper to Evanston it was just as busy as every other 4th weekend I can remember. Moreso once I hit I-80. The other thing I noticed was convoys of easterners. You would see 4-6 vehicles from illinois together, then 3-5 from Iowa, then 4-6 from Michigan, etc. Its the first time I can remember seeing that. And there was some guy trying to do south texas to north washington in 28 hours or some crap like that, had it plastered all over his van.

In mt lots of peeps are slowing way down I talked to a few high-pros the other day and they say they have seen huge decrease in speed and trafic is starting to dwindle off.

Better get to contacting your Reps and Senators which in my case here in Washington they'd ignore me. If the feds get this passed they will hold all states who don't fall in line hostage..... with Highway funding blackmail
double nickel sucks.....at least 60 if at all.
The last time they pulled this vehicles didn't have 4- 6 speed automatics and 5-6 speed sticks. It would make high gear damn near useless and would'nt save chit!

My 2500 HD Diesel gets 20...my beater Saturn can get 40......which one would you commute with. Duramax in driveway until needed. My only regret is that I couldn't wait 7 months to buy that truck.
Just about every Excursion I see has ONE person in it and is 95% of the time female.

I think your right about this ! I have been noticing more peeps pulled over latley !A lot more! REVENUE is what that B.S. is about like every other liberal idiotic law presented as a good for you idea and ends up being a way to generate revenue and control us ! its crap and people need to open there eyes. Maybe someone needs to tell me the last time a law was passed limiting personal freedoms that was a good thing.

I really hope you guys don't think it is ok to tell soccer moms they cant drive suv's. This is what's left of america, people should be able to drive whatever the hell they want. That would be just like other people telling us where we can and cant ride.

guy pulls up the pumps the other day ......."Gas sure is expensive eh ? "......said "nope"

"You just can't afford it"..... and pumped on 300 gallons of diesel which is 15 cents more expensive
