The Fix?

I guess im missing something here, why not just fit a set of stock replacement wisecos. There shouldnt be any problems if they are clearanced properly, thats what your doing with the fix kit except for the spacer which then requires a special piston. Any Thoughts? I didnt have time to do a search so forgive me if this has been asked already.

You kind of have that backwards. The "special piston" is specifically designed to be longer and more stable in the cylinder bore. You add the length with the proper clearance and you have a more stable piston (greatly reduced piston slap). The spacer is to compensate the added piston length.

Yes, the main problem is the cylinder itself from my understanding. Adding proper clearanced pistons helps, but due to the cylinder being out of round, even a properly measured piston will "rock" in the cylinder (which hammers on the skirt, and bottom of cylinders). The fix kit has a taller piston to reduce this rocking, as well as closer piston to cylinder tollerance.

Xc6rider has it spot on... Go ahead and pull your head, put your fingers on the pistons and wiggle them back and forth... You'll be amazed at what you see.

Back in the day, this was not a problem AT ALL... We'd just punch it out, throw some bigger pistons in it, and call it a big bore :face-icon-small-ton

Wonder if anyone is offering a steel sleeve, or is it even possible to be done with this cylinder?

A proper tolerance piston makes a huge difference on it's own, but it isn't the whole story. By adding the spacer and lengthening the pistons they are reducing the side forces produced from the crank throw.

So when you install the fix kit are you not sending the cylinders out to have them repaired, like taper, clearance ect... I understand that polaris was sending these units out with too much clearance and with the short piston they had issues with them rocking in the bore and breaking skirts. So If polaris would have had proper clearance from the git-go would they have had all these issues? The reason i am talking wiseco pistons is because the are forged and much stronger then the stock cast piston so if clearanced properly should not have skirt breaking issues even at .006 clearance witch is the minimum I have ever installed a wiseco. I understand the FIX includes wisecos, just wondering if anyone has tried this. I have no problem buying the FIX KIT, just want to make sure its not a crutch or a waist of money. Thanks for all the replies, I enjoy learning something new everyday.

The main issue is when the cyl gets hot it dosnt stay round, only fix for the 800 cfi is a bigbore kit from carls.
