the first snow bike with reverse

I just took my maiden voyage on my KX450 Moto Trax with a four wheeler bottom end with reverse and electric start.

I got it stuck on purpose and it backed right out of the hole I do have to walk next to it but i think if it was a timbersled I could probably sit on it and ride it backwards but the Moto Trax tips to much.

It's actually less of a frankenbike than my first build. It fit together nice. The coolest part isn't the reverse its the muffler. The muffler is a 30 dollar thrush from oriellys. It is actually lighter than the stock titanium muffler and much quieter. Dumps down on top of the track and should melt the snow out from under the seat (I hope). Can't really test that feature until our May powder day arrives....

Reverse

Wow, good deal. When do you start production and sales? ? How is reverse achieved on that unit?

I know I had a nytro that ran a muffler under the tunnel and it created a ton of ice fyi... Added a lot of weight ...

The transmission is from a kfx450 atv.

The other reverse engine options I found that might work would be the ktm 525 atv or Polaris outlaw 525 (with ktm engine).

They are the only ones with reverse that can make hp and have a manual clutch that I know of.

Love to see it, great progress, another thin to think about when someone make a dedicated snowbike!

Reverse is the coolest thing. It's so useful I will probably never get stuck again. Can't wait for a factory built dedicated snow bike with reverse. Preferably a 2 stroke.

Now you know that's a lie you are going to get stuck 10 times over

Couple interesting things about the 4 wheeler bottom end. It has crazy flywheel mass. It's kinda boring compared to my 2 strokes but probably is a good thing even with the stage 1 kx cams it will idle at super low compared to any kx I ever heard. Works good with the crappy clutch to keep from stalling in reverse when you can't let the clutch all the way out.

Also the atv gear ratios are super tight. It feels like a dump truck and seems like it only drops 500 rpm between shifts! This will be great when we get more deep snow but top speed suffers on the road.

I couldn't run the stock kx cdi because the atv had a dc style 3 phase stator so I put on a programmable one and had to build the curve myself. Right now It likes max advance around 53 degrees! I can only guess because it still has the atv 12:1 piston and I'm running at high altitude. I'm going to rebuild it with high comp piston over the summer and see if I can get a faster more efficient burn so I don't need so much timing.

I'm really enjoying the quiet muffler. I can't tell if it is costing me a few hp but if it is I have to say its worth it. I guess I'm to old to appreciate a loud pipe...

I'm loving the Mototrax so far. I have spent a lot of seat time on my all buddies MTX's for the last 2 seasons but this is the first one I have actually owned. I must say the flex joint is a pro and a con. Its a lot better and more fun in most conditions, but in a super steep spring sidehills it won't hold like a TS. The Camso has the same problem though and most people don't complain about it. I'm going to try limiting it so it won't flex as far and see if I can find a happy medium.

This was today s snow. Crotch deep mush. The 2.5 track won't even spin through it from a dead start on a hill. It digs for one revolution and basically stalls the engine. The reverse worked nice so I just backed up and hit it faster to stay on top like in pow
