Putting in a new starter rope today, and I busted a bolt on the recoil when I was putting it back together. So I just continued to see if I could start it and drive it up to the warm shop. Well, turns out that I messed up something inside. Should have waited for my pops to help me I guess. Here I thought I had this simple fix down.

BAH!

Sounds like my kind of luck. The easier the job should be the more problems I seem to have. At least you tried, plus you will end up learning more as you fix whatever happened.:face-icon-small-con

Might want to tie an additional knot in the rope somewhere above the recoil hole (with the handle at rest) where it wont rub when being pulled.

That way when the rope breaks at the handle next time it wont recoil all the rope into the housing. The secondary knot will stop it and you can make a quick repair. Good luck. EW

if you buy the fantom rope it won't break. did you wind it up or did you take the whole thing apart.

Better yet, when you have it apart, chamfer the edges of the handle so it won't cut into the rope in the first place.
