Thanks

I just bought an 05 900 with a broken crank. I wanted to say thanks to everyone who has contributed info, tips, and tricks about these sleds. I have learned a ton without the growing pains that usually come along with a rebuild project. I am sure I will ask some dumb questions, so don't be afraid to call me on it.

I also hope to contribute info of my own before I am done. My first question, can someone confirm what parts are included in part #2203617 from Babbitts. The only reason I ask is, the lady I talked to seemed unsure.
Thanks,

it comes with new 32mm crankshaft and clutch, and all gaskets and seals. definetly send your new clutch in to indydan or someone else that does a real good balance job. they say they are balanced but they are far from it.
if you havent already looked into it, Indydan does a TM1 build with this kit. i couldnt afford the TM3, but this one was within budget. you send him your cases and he ads the extra bearing to the crank and fits it to your cases. it adds about a 1,000 bucks to the project, but its also a comforting feeling knowing that there is that extra bit of work thrown in there.
i think there are a few people on here running the update kit without the TM1 that have had good luck so far.

Yes if your order the crank it give s you a complete assembled ready to drop in with all gaskets you will need to get to the crank. Also matching over sized clutch its actually a decent deal for what you get

Going to pull the motor in my 05 Fusion 900 next summer to install the new 06 pistons and change the mounts. Is this kit something that I should look in to?

If your going to keep your sled then I'd say yes. After you change out your crank and clutch you can sell the old ones and not be out very much money and have a new motor, clutch and belt.

I guess I'm going to press my luck. It only has 2000 miles on it. I know that doesn't mean much but with the little bit of snow that we get here it won't get ridden as much as others so I'm hoping it holds up till then. Does anybody know if you would order pistons off of a website like babbitts under the 05 Fusion 900 category if you will get the updated 06 pistons or are you better off ordering them under the 06 category?

if your going with the 06 pistons, get them from polaris

i put wiseco's in mine, but from what guido and the generel concencus is the polaris parts are more reliable

but it will give me an excuse to get the TM III when it goes next time...LOL

if you order the 05 piston the number is changed up to the 06 # you can not get the 05 anymore so it dosnt matter which year you order

dont forget to install washers under the cyl bolts their is a tsb on that also

Team Tip S-05-09-02 Reminder: 2005 900 Cleanfire Engine Cylinder Bolt Washer Addition
The possibility exists where the bores drilled for the cylinder bolts in the upper crankcase may not have been
drilled deep enough or metal shavings may be at the bottom of the bore(s). When this occurs, the cylinder bolt
clamp force is reduced even while the desired cylinder bolt torque has been reached.
The primary symptom is a white-carbon build-up on one spark plug metal casing wall.
If this symptom occurs, Polaris recommends the following action:
1. Drain the engine coolant.
2. Remove the cylinder head. Discard the o-rings.
3. Loosen and remove the cylinder bolts. Install a washer, PN 7556234, on each bolt. Re-install the cylinder
bolts and torque to 34 lb.ft. (46 Nm) following the torque sequence in the service manual.
4. Re-install the cylinder using new o-rings and fasteners. Follow the recommended torque specifications and
torque sequences in the service manual.
5. Re-fill the cooling system. Bleed the air out of the system and test.
Polaris recommends the washers, PN 7556234, be added to the cylinder bolts WHENEVER the engine is
removed or re-built for any reason. <<<<<<thanks mountainhourse

and only use oem polaris polaris imo

Yeah thats my plan to only use the OEM motor parts, unless I could save up a couple of grand and buy one of Indydans kits. So does the crank kit on babbitts come with new rods or do I have to buy a rod kit also?? I figure that while I have the motor out may as well do the whole thing. Thanks

Just wondering? When you say all the gaskets and seals do you mean it comes with head gaskets, o rings, exhaust seals v.e.s. gaskets etc...?

comes with all gaskets, o-rings, and seals to re-assemble your engine. i did not have to buy any other gaskets when i put mine back together. it is a really good deal considering they throw in a $150 belt with the kit.

Was going to ask you guys what ya thought about getting new cylinders along with all this other work until I saw that they are over $500 a piece!!!!:hurt: So instead I will ask what is the best method for re using the old cylinders. I don't like mixing old and new parts but hey if they are going to work and save me $1000 I'll use em.

get hold of indy dan you will get alot better price on replated cyl if you want to go thar way

if their is no marks on the walls just deglase the walls and install new pistons and rings
