Texas Hold'em Advice

Local tournament shaping up this weekend. 30+ players.
Any advice/tips/hints for playing in large numbers. Conservative, aggressive at the start or throughout?

What has worked for you?

Do what Camden says for a while then all the Dawsons :face-icon-small-win will be out in the first few hands. Then you have to start playing before the big stacks get any bigger

I find it all depends on the prize pool amount, the lower the buy in the more flakes you get in it.
Fold as much as possible till you get a real good feel for the players and this should weed out most of the flakes.

Play loose when the table is tight and play tight when the table is loose. If there are 9 people at the table .... someone will always have an ace. Make sure you only play big aces in early position. You don't have to be as selective with your aces in the later positions.

If someone makes a bet, then puts their hand to their mouth .... they are probably bluffing.

If someones hand starts shaking after the flop .... they are very strong.

Don't look at your cards till you have to. Observe the other players looking at their hands. Lots of tells. Same for the flop. Don't look at the flop till it's your turn to act. Observe the others during the flop. People will actually sigh or shrug their shoulders when they are weak or glance at their stack when they are strong.

An ace will come out on the board 18% of the time. Same with any random card.

If people know you are observing them they might begin to act. If you believe they are acting ... do the opposite to what they want you to believe.

Good luck. A good read is Doyle Brunson's Super System.

You got to:

Know when to hold them

Know when to fold them

Know when to walk away

Know when to run

AND

Never count your money when you're sitting at the table..........

HAVE FUN.

Just play tight and play with position if at all possible. If you have a good hand then play it strong, most weekend players try to be cute and slow play big hands and overplay bad hands.

Folding while not in the blinds is free and you can not lose money by not being in a hand.

Only play good starting hands unless you are in the blinds and can see a flop for cheap.

If you ever wonder if you should fold, that means you should fold.

If you have a open ended straight draw or a 4 card flush after the flop you have a 33% chance of hitting it before the end of the hand, at the turn you have an 18% chance.

To calculate your outs percentage after the flop take your number of outs and multiply it by 4 and add 2, after the turn take your number of outs and multiply it by 2 and add 2. (these are +/- about 1%)

Take the above advice and do not allow yourself to get chip committed with a weak hand or bluff

try to see some cheap flops.. regardless of what you have in your hand...unless you are short stacked... always pay attention to how much you have infront of you.. and how much the rest of the field has infront of them.. realise that the amount of chips infront of a person will greatly depict on how they will play.. If you get up in chips early.. try and see a lot of of cheap flops..

The worst thing you can do is to try something you see on t.v.!

When you have cards that are worth staying in for, ALWAYS raise the blinds. No one plays for free. Get the $hitty cards out right away.

just have fun, your gonna lose everyhting you put in anyways

you're a novice, the only people making any money are limit players anyways and your friendly game is like to be a no-limit so you are screwed
