Tether switch mounting on D8?

So I totalled my mxzx 800 last week by not wearing tether and having throttle stick wfo, and I dont want my dragon to meet its maker (yet). Can I replace my ignition switch with the tether or do I have to wire it in to the kill switch circuit? I hate keys on mtn. sleds and have seen them get broken off or lost in the trees. I would prefer to just have a tether and a kill switch. Thanks in advance!

The D8 is pre-wired for a tether. You will find a harness with three flat blade connectors, one on top, two on the bottom. Buy the WPS tether and put on two butt connectors, plug and play.

I believe you can unplug the key harness and it will run. Maybe somebody elase on here has tried running that way.

I installed a tether on my 09 700. There's a spot on the right side, directly across from the key switch, that has a flat surface. I picked up a Polaris tether switch which came ready to plug in to the harness via a connector thats located behind the key switch.

Just unplug key switch, I got the polaris teether and mounted it in the middle of plastic cover over the gas tank.

What is this worth from Polaris? Any pictures?

Is the plug and play 2870668?
heard from a few this wasn't plug and play

This is the Polaris tether that Weston mentioned, it plugs directly into the key harnass which you can unplug at the same time. We have had decent luck with these, but 2 have failed over the years.

I just installed 2 of these Pro Design tethers on my my new Pro and on my sons 09 Dragon. It simply clamps to the handle bars and wires up easy by adding a couple spade connectors. It is a watercraft type v-clip. One ride yesterday and I really like it too.

Tether is money in the bank IMO. EW

Very plug n play as stated above.

Babbitts has a quick parts look up, but of course you'll want to actually order from Michelle at Oregon Trail Sports at (541)523-3500 or contact freeagent here on snowest once you know if you can afford it.

Good luck. EW

Ordered one today from my dealership, should be here in 3 days
42 Canadian dollars
I paid $37.00 I thought that was hi, guess not. It's pretty much plug and play, I had to remove the black and brown wire from the back of the ignition switch and plug it in to the supplied plug that came with the kit.

I have the Polaris tether and have a question on which wires to hook it up to? My ignition switch has the two wire plug coming out from the back.

Do I only plug the two wire plug in? what about the other two wires? Do I need to unplug the two wires from the back on the ignition swith and hook up all 4 wires on the tether?

Thank you,

I have the polaris tether, I just plugged the two wire connector into the ingnition harness, and used electrical tape to wrap the other two wires and keep them out of the way. Works fine. It is on an 09 D8.
