Tether Safety Switch

I have an aftermarket tether switch that i purchased from SLP and is a piece of garbage and i need to replace it. What are you guys using on your sleds besides? I have a 06 Polaris 700 RMK. Any ideas would be great.

Same here, got a Polaris switch. Drill one hole in the console to mount it and plug in the wires and done.

I believe the one i purchased from Strait Line Performance is the factory polaris tether kill switch (or maybe something simular). The problem is the rubber cap and the little raised nub within that cap would become deformed and would not effectively press on the white button on the switch assembly when i placed the rubber cap back on the switch. I believe the switch itself was bad too. I will deal with the return and refund with SLP at a later time.

This is the factory one. Not sure if this is What Strait line sells or not.

what happens with kill switch?

I have a question.....if you fall off going down hill and the engine does not die im assuming the pistons have less resistance and they move hence the track rolling resistance is much less(and boom goes the tree)......whereas with the kill switch when the motor dies the compression is greatly increased and of course there is no spark to reignite the piston so the track has much more resistance(maybe not boom the tree). Is this fair to say, or completely way off base. (better description?) Thanks.

No increase in compression when the engine dies. But the drive clutch stops spinning. You sled may still coast to the bottom of the hill even with the engine off but if your throttle sticks and you don't have a tether kill switch you sled is going to see just how fast it can hit the tree at the bottom or whatever else it runs into before it stops.

Never had any problems at all with the tether kill switch.

The rubber ends have been known to deteriorate over the years and cause the tether to malfunction as you have described. Simply get a new end for your cord or probably easier to just buy a new replacement tether to ensure proper function..... For the amount of protection they can offer they really don't cost very much.

I have not had one fail on me yet:beer;

Sorry, these things are junk!! I've gone through a couple of them, and they are half azz. Do the right thing, and spend $60 bucks on a pro design tether kill switch, and count on reliability! What I did, is I got rid of the stock throttle block, and ordered the ftx throttle block (an other $60 bucks). Snip the stock kill switch wire, and remove the red kill switch button, and mount the new tether on the handlebars. You not only get rid of those contrary throttle switches on the stock throttle block, but you replace it with a beautiful machined throttle block that can take a hit from a tree, and you have the safety of your new tether to stop the motor in an event of getting blown off your horse. A good investment in my opinion.

The one with the red caps are made by Maier.

I have the Polaris one that I got from the dealer with the black cap. It's been on the sled 4 years and no problems.

Hey guidoxpress did you mount that tether on the steering stem or handlebars??? Do you have a pic?

i mounted it to the handlbars on my 900s..
