Tether Question

I've been reading the threads about people getting caught up in the track, and the recommendations of using a tether. Everything from the guy on here losing his hand, to getting my leg caught in the track last season has convinced me I need one.

My question is, do the tethers completely replace the factory kill switch, or are they an addition to the kill switch? I ordered the RSI throttle block today for my 2013 Pro that relocates the factory kill switch. I'm wondering if spending that money was pointless if I am going to go with a tether.

I've also read several threads about which tethers are the best. Are there tethers out that that keep the factory kill switch, and ones that eliminate it?
If so, what are people's recommendations for a tether that keeps the factory kill switch in place?

I put on a tether I got from my local Polaris dealer and it did not replace the factory kill switch. Although you will have to have the tether hooked up in order for it to run. I like it that way because when I'm riding terrain that I don't really need a tether I can just use the factory kill switch.

The factory Polaris tether has a quick connect on the 2013 pro under your hood that makes it really easy to install. Just un velcro the pouch in between your over structure and you will see the two prong plug then find a place to mount it and you're set. Kill switch on bars will still work as well! I am confused why you had to get an aftermarket kill switch to relocate on the 13 cause mine came with the kill switch and throttle block as two separate pieces so a guy could move it around...

Thanks guys. I will go to the dealer and see if they can get me a tether.

You are right, the '13 Pro does have a separate throttle block and kill switch mount. I managed to break the plastic kill switch mount at the end of last season. Earlier in the season, I cracked the lower portion of the throttle block and had to replace it because the throttle flipper wouldn't stay in place.
Instead of continuing to replace the plastic parts, I decided to with an aftermarket aluminum part. It is smaller, less bulky, and much more stout. It also places the kill switch out of the way so its not accidentally pushed (although I do use an o-ring on my switch).

Get a Polaris tether 5min install and maybe a spare cord if you think you need it.
Turn key to on while pulling on it and they usually come out so you can keep it in the truck/trailer if you want to " lock it " from your buddies.

Any of you guys running the Polaris switch ever have problems with the rubber plug freezing up or splitting? Doing some research on different brands, and I keep hearing how the rubber plugs are junk.

I never have had an issue with the rubber ones, just whip it against the bars a time or two to clear it out before plugging in when necessary.
