Prayers go out to the families, friends and coworkers of those killed or injured last night at Tesoro Refinery in Anacortes.
Sounds like a group of 10 maintenance folks were working a hydrotreater job when something went fatally wrong.
This hits hard to me because this is exactly the work that I do right next door. I have not heard any names yet but will be watching the story as it develops. This could potentially impact Skagit County very hard.
My hat is off to those fire fighters that risk it all to help others. Refinery fires are not like residential fires. Many of the pipes you see are filled with super heated gasoline under high pressure. Some of the stuff is so hot that it auto ignites when it comes in contact with air. The fire teams must push through the flames with water and hoses to get to the proper valves and close them.
We train for this often, but controlled conditions are not like the real thing.
RIP
