Terrible gas milage with '07 XRS

Hey everyone,
thought i would ask to see what my problem was and maybe someone else had the same problem. my 07 XRS 151 only 1200 miles has been getting terrible gas milage. when the other guys i have been riding with use 6 gallons and i fill up and use 9! plus when i ride it seems like there is some unburned gas and oil residue in the snow coming out of the stock muffler? it has always been this way anybody? Jetting maybe? Valves?
help?

Hmmm...I think you may have answered your own question. My XRS gets good mileage, however not when I have it pinned in the pow. I would check jetting first, always a good place to start. Although the DPM should adjust for a majority of it. How is the performance of the sled? Have you cleaned the valves lately?

have you looked into the RAVE system hoses and making sure they are all secure?...I checked mine a while back and didnt feel like digging into fixing that too big of hose on the small nipple on the mag side.(looked pretty tight)..my 07 summit x started getting very poor mileage still would rip then slowing started losing the rpms on the top end...it ended up being that hose was way loose...now it rips again and the mileage has also improved a bit i believe...in relation to the sleds i normally ride with...? just a thought...

As mentioned above if all hoses are tight and still leaving black strips in snow I would say it needs to be jetted down. Start with 1 or 2 sizes and check regularly to make sure it is not lean. Adjust mid range by raising clip on needle jet to make it leaner and lowering it to make it richer. Ski-doo tends to jet a couple sizes rich stock for warranty reasons.

Do not start by jetting down, The DPM is probably not working correctly,Do a search and find the info to check DPM system. this will cause sled to go full rich condition. 07 stock has 470 mains and get system operating properly and jetting will be close.

i agree, i would rather not mess with the jetts b/c the fact that it would probible run to lean with the danger of major engine trouble.
thanks for the input everyone!

Only reson I mentioned jetting is that he said the sled runs great except for bad milage and it was leaving black marks in the snow from the start. When my dpm had an issue and went rich the sled would not even rev to 3000 at elevation, especially under load. Yes they did come with 470 mains stock, but mine was running rich stock and I ride from 3-7000'. I would then assume it would be even worse at 10,000. Just saying that a dpm issue usually causes poor performance which he said he does have.
