I brought this up before, but impolitely in the wrong thread. I have ridden dirtbikes in many places in Idaho, and this year went up to Yellowpine. My good friend is from there. I heard great things from the locals about sledding there, but they were old timers and I got the impression they stuck to the roads.:beer;
I guess what I am wondering is if I should ride in, stay in Yellowpine and use his place as "basecamp." Would my rig be safe so far away? Did the FS fix the road in yet? Is the riding there any better than what can be ridden from closer to McCall? It is very steep country around there so I wondered about avy danger heading up to say, Stibnite, Horse Heaven,ect?? Any thoughts would really be appreciated!:)

Yellow Pine

Im not Sure How Far they Keep the Road Open, I have a Place for Rent in Pine Idaho that Has some of the Best Ridin Right from the House, You can Park the Trailer Right in The yard and Never have to Trailer anywhere. You can ride either way from the House, You can Ride up Grouse Creek, Or go up thru Featherville to the Top or Go up to the Pine store and take the Long way back to the Steep and Deep Ridin, I have a House that can Sleep 4-5 Guys and Have all the ammenities of Home.. We will have the Website Up this Weekend....slednpine.com

I haven't ridden up in the Yellow pine area but I know people that do, usually the Big Creek area. I know there are a few areas that are closed due to wilderness so make sure you don't go there. They did get the road fixed and it is plowed from Warm Lake to Yellow pine, just make sure you take chains... the road is not a high priority for plowing and you don't want to get stuck back there. Your stuff should be safe but you never know... it's a long way back there. Good Luck...

PM Julio and see what he says... he has property back there and spends a lot of time around there hunting. I know he's sledded back there a time or two but it was a long time ago.

There are 3 ways to get there. Drive in on the plowed road from Warm Lake down the South Fork and then Up the East Fork of the SF, or ride sleds in from the end of the road at Warm Lake up the hill to Landmark and then down Johnson Cr, (the best way) or from McCall over Lick Cr. But the Lick cr. route has avy hazards on the north side and you have to run on the plowed road for a ways up the EFSF, and there are not any real good play areas. Landmark is a super great area for playing in (lots of meadows) and you can ride on over to Deadwood and eventually to Stanley if you want too. Not a lot of play areas right around YP though, there are some areas going down Johnson cr to climb on. The Alpine Village at Yellowpine is a great place to stay. Spud.
