Sunday Oneshotcrew and myself headed East to Taneum to claim one last ride before the season ends. It was looking slim driving in, pretty bare all the way up to Icewater. We ended up muscling my truck through several snow patches all the way to Taneum Junction were I almost tempted fate by driving through too deep of wet slush pack. We unloaded and rallied back up the road, skipping from snowpatch to dirt, to concrete till we hit the Gooseberry flats road up. Snowpack was solid from there up. Best part, no whoops!
Up in Gnat Flats, there was nice slush pack everywhere, wide open blazing sections through the trees. Coverage was good, but the occasional stump was ready to wake you up if you weren't paying attention.
After syncronized donuts at Gnat Flats we turned it on the cross country land bashing, and headed on up to Frost Mtn to find more of the same. I expected a little firmer pack at higher elevation, but sun, good ole slush pack, couple trees obstacles, and stumps a plenty were the call of the day. At one point I was climbing behind Oneshot and he goosed it coming over the ridge only to uncover a nice stump for me to take evasive action on.
Here Oneshot drops the mini cornice we found up on Frost.
Our destination was Quartz so we hauled on up. Found a nice view of Rainer, kicked back a brew and some lunch.
On the way back, we found several excellent climbs between stump fields and a almost not frozen lake to dip our tracks in. Apparently they were thirsty. Coverage is looking thin, but still ridable. We didn't see a single sled all day, no whoops on the roads which was nice after our last few trips to Gold Creek. Probably worthy of hitting for the next week or two, just drive past Icewater and unload at the Gooseberry flat road (FS3330). Enjoy!
