*** Taneum Sno-Park - Pictures ***

Someone here wanted to know what conditions were like in the Taneum. The sun came out and I waited for the temp to get up around freezing B4 heading out. Trails were pure ice. Many places with rocks, no snow and running water. I gave up after about 5 miles when I almost got stuck in "Gregoire Gulch" and then broke a scratcher. Headed home and decided: The sun is still out, I have a mission to accomplish and the 911 hasn't been out in about 6 weeks.

So, off I head for the Snow park via county roads. The road in shows much debris and evidence of massive material coming off the hill. After getting around some debris and a downed tree, the road was glare ice; several inches thick - never driven on ice this thick. Finally made the Sno-Park and the report is:

Thin layer of snow at the park, recent grooming - should be OK to road ride. Off road is a real mess. Water thru everything. I was on a ridge a week ago with a 7 foot drift to drop off of, today - bare dirt!.......A few pic's of the road into the Taneum:

I was out there last night. Trail base is thin and hard ice, but the groomers have done a good job preserving what we've got left- just need a snow top-off. South facing slopes are down to mostly dirt and rocks, so I suppose the road up to Skull Springs might be a mess. Looks like the groomer has been on the road heading out to Quartz.

And a sign of how weirdly warm it's been: had a SKUNK run out in front of my rig while driving in.

There are four of us riding from Tillman Creek tomorrrow to Squaw Rock Resort to see if there's enough snow for next weekends CDS overnight club ride. Rock Creek road might be bare.

Should be intersting, probably need to take extra ice scratchers.

Rock Creek?

Good luck. I don't live far from there and it's pretty bare. Rock Creek is pretty low. Last weeks tropical storm melted our snow like nothing I've ever seen.

Thanks - Car is a 1973 - Have a 1969 also, be a long restore project....

An old friend of mine had a '78 6 cylinder that he bought from a dentist. The dentist was also a club racer, which spilled on over to his daily driver. The car was silver, and looked completely stock. A peek under the "bonnet" told a different tale. There they were, staring you right in the face......TWINS. One for each triplet of jugs.

We went to a Ferrari Owner's Group (FOG) outing at Nelson Ledges Raceway with another pal of ours whose father raced a Ferrari in club events. My buddy, who was also an extremely gifted kart racer, was invited to turn some hot laps in the 911. By the time he made his third lap, everyone had stopped to watch the nut in the 911. When Jim went to get his lap times, everyone started to clap......As it turns out, Jim had come within 2 tenths of a second of the class lap record....ON STREET TIRES.

Anyway.....Nice ride you have there.

What time you leaving Tillman? I can't ride from my house right now. 3 of us were gonna hit Quartz from Taneum, but I checked out Tillman today and think we'll go there.....I dunno about Squaw Rock, heard it's pretty bare getting down to 410.....

We are meeting at Keith's (Greenskeeper) property at 9am. PM me if you need directions or we could meet at the trailhead.

We are all packing extra gas as we'll probably put on 90+ miles.
