Taking for granted

After a full weekend of riding the wife's 2011 IQ RMK 600 I have to say that I have taken for granted the abilities that are bestowed upon he who commands the Pro!

I, as all good friends should do, let my friend ride the Pro 8 while his IQ 9 was in the shop over the weekend. I rode the wife's sled so if it got cracked up I didn't lose a friend as well as a wife. :face-icon-small-hap

I have done things all season long in which I felt confident and in total control while on the Pro. I rode pretty much the entire day Saturday on the IQ. After stopping, in a open field to let the clutches cool off, my friend stopped and told me to take my Pro out and do some donuts. I got on and immediately put the sled on it's side and fell off! I did this two more times before I came to the conclusion that 1) I need to get used to the sled again before attempting said maneuver. 2) These Pro's make all of us better riders and we take for granted just what Polaris has placed in our hands.

Just my 2 cents worth of observation.

I've found in a flat meadow you'd better be ready to reach that balance point and stay there. The side panel drag is far less on the Pro so there is basically nothing to balance against. You can't be lazy like you can with basically all other sleds that have some degree of side panel drag. I've found this to be both a good and bad thing; good for sidehilling steeps and bad for slow/technical sidehilling or carving flats.

Have FUN!

I used to be able to just that and in almost any type of snow condition. You just have to pull so much harder on an IQ than on a PRO that I pulled way to hard when hoping back over to the Pro. Sidehilling the IQ was more of a challenge as well. Probably for exactly the reasons you stated. I just didn't notice it last year on my 09' RMK 8. The PRO just spoils you in the handling department. Love this sled!

After about 5 minutes of riding my buddies Pro I was able to side hill across a steep slope and pull the sled up through some rocks to get over the top. I would never have attempted this on my Dragon. Buddy was a little nervous when I brought the sled back to him. Dragon is for sale 2011 RMK purchased!!!
